Bo Brooks: Steamed Crabs On The Bay

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For fresh seafood and steamed crabs Bo Brooks is an excellant choice. If you want to get away from the Inner Harbor but still want to be on the water front then head to Canton. Not far from the Inner Harbor or Fells Point Canton has a good selection of restaurants like Bo Brooks.

Favorite Dish: Steamed crabs, crab cakes, or other seafood choices are all excellent at Bo Brooks. The staff are local. The last time I visited the waitress even called me "Hon" which is a typical Baltimroe euphemism.

Bo Brooks Crab: A Difficult Review!

    by JoeM130 Written Aug 27, 2014

Other than being overpriced, I can't say anything bad about this place. But as a Baltimore resident and native and a crab connoisseur, I do have an opinion that may factor into your choice on whether to dine here or not. First off, most, if not close to all waterfront restaurants are tourist traps. Yes, the views are spectacular, the service good, and the food above average, but if you're looking for "the best" Baltimore seafood, crabs and crab cakes, and you want more bang for your buck, you need to travel outside of the tourist areas. Unfortunately, Bo Brooks is not an exception to this rule. Bo Brooks is a Baltimore staple, having been ONCE one of the best crab houses in Baltimore. It's hard to pinpoint when, but at some point, the legendary name surpassed the food and it's value. I recently had a friend visit from out of town, and not only did I want to feed them great crabs, but I wanted the whole waterfront atmosphere, etc, so against my better judgment we went to Bo Brooks. Service was excellent, and the views were phenomenal. However......The crabs were average at best, and way, way, way over priced. Now I know that crab prices have gone through the roof in the past decade or two, everywhere, so it's not just this restaurant's fault. With that being said, I can pay $40-$60/dozen for great crabs elsewhere, instead I payed $100/dozen at Bo Brooks for just average crabs. If you haven't any crab eating experience and you don't mind blowing a large chunk of change on something that you can get elsewhere for half the price, or if this waterfront location is more important than the food that you are eating, by all means dine here, but if you'd like a valued crab eating experience, shop around and check with the Baltimore locals for authentic, reasonably priced crab houses. You won't hate this place, but with a little effort you'll be happier and pay less elsewhere. So Bo Brooks! You've just sort of overpriced your crabs!
