L.P. Steamers: as baltimore as it gets.
baltimore is famopus for it's crabs and L.P. steamers is the place to eat them in baltimore style.
the tables are floating with crabs and the beer is flowing too.
even if i'm allergic to shell fish i thought it was a very interesting place ti visit.
Favorite Dish: crabs is what you should eat there unless you are allergic to shellfish like me.
i had a pata dish and it was very fine for the price i paid.
L.P. Steamers: Crab Fest!
L.P. Steamers was the venue chosen for the main event of BaltOberfest, Saturday night's crab fest. Although I've eaten plenty of crab in my lifetime, this was the first time I had eaten crabs in this fashion, they pour a load of Old Bay seasoned crabs on your brown paper covered table, hand you a mallet and a knife and then sit back and laugh at all the (virtual) tourists trying to figure out just how to eat this thing.
Our BaltOberfest hosts, some other locals and even the owner tried to give us a crab eating tutorial but it was too much for some of us landlubbers. And everyone had a different and unique method so in the end most of us seemed to be bashing them with our mallets much to the horror of the locals! But it was a blast even if I did end up picking shells out of most of my crab meat.
L.P. Steamers: Not for Crabaphobics!
This is a local's joint that has the occasional tourist .... on the night I was there for the VT meet there were A LOT of tourist's! This 3 story restaurant offers ..... um .... crabs. Yup, you can get a cheese sandwich, fries and such ... but the real reason to head to this end of town is sample a pound or two of the area's specialty ... steamed crabs blanketed in Old Bay seasoning.
Now I could say ... "Oh, they bring you a crab" ... but the truth I will share is that they bring you a cafeteria tray OVERFLOWING with crabs .. then proceed to dump the lot off of the tray and onto your table. Yummmmm.
Of course, being surrounded by 50 or so of your best online mates as you struggle to crack the shells for those little tidbits of meat just adds another level of enjoyment to the experience.

Crab Fest at L.P. STEAMERS CRAB HOUSE
Steamed Crabs and ice cold beer -- all go together and there is not a better place to find this great combination than at L.P. Steamers Crab House. A heaping mound of tasty crustaceans coated in Old Bay seasoning were literally dumped on the brown-paper covered tables. Now where else would you find grown-ups wearing a bib, eating with their hands, throwing leftovers in a pile and generally making a mighty mess -- all the while having a ton of fun. I even had a couple of beers. I honestly thought it was a lot of work for so little pay-off. Give me a steak any day.
Here's one very important thing to know about crabs. How to tell the "Boys" from the "Girls". Bottom of a female is shaped like the U.S. Capital building and the bottom of a male is shaped like the Washington Monument - no pun intended.
Well we all had a great time and though the upstairs rooms of the restaurant were a little overcrowded . it sure made for a cozy atmosphere.

This very local Crab House in South Baltimore was the location for Baltoberfest's premier event on Saturday night! Bud and his staff are wonderful hosts, it's a great place for dinner.
Favorite Dish: The only thing to eat here is CRABS. Of course.
LP Steamers: Crab Heaven
LP Steamers specializes in steamed Chesapeake Bay crabs. Since eating crabs is a messy business, it's a no-frills sort of place. They cover the tables with long rolls of brown paper and dump platters of hot crabs right onto the table. Mallets and picks are provided, and pitchers of beer are served. Service is friendly and prompt.
I found myself in an odd position at this dinner, since I wanted to be part of the VT gathering but am allergic to crab. Luckily, LP's menu offers other options for diners who can't eat crab: burgers, sandwiches, and other kinds of seafood. I had fried oysters, which were good, with a dish of coleslaw on the side, and tried to keep flying fragments of crab out of my food.

Apparently they do have other seafood offerings than steamed crab but we never got the chance. Upon sitting at our table with the butcher paper table cloth and rolls of paper towels, a waiter came with a large tray of freshly steamed crabs doused with Old Bay seasoning and proceeded to slide them off onto the table. At this point everyone grabbed a crab and started using the little wooden mallets that were provided. It was quite a spectacle, a bit messy, but quite a bit of fun. Oh, and the crab was ever so tasty! It's a bit of work but with a group of friends and a bit of beer it's a lot of fun! The crabs were also served with a helping of french fries (mostly ignored) and cole slaw.
Another great Baltimore experience!

LP Steamers is a crab house. They bring tray after tray of steamed crabs covered in old bay seasoning until you can eat no more. mmmmmm
Locals reccomend that you drink cheap beer with the crabs.
