My wife and I have been going to Mr. Bill's for about 20 years. At first it was 2-3 times a week. Then we cut back to once a week and now it's more like once a month. But, believe me it is not because of the lack of good crabs or service. Our daughter lives in California and when she visits, one of the MUST places to go is to Mr. Bill's. During this time we have almost never gotten a bad crab. We told the waitress about the one bad crab, and it was replaced. If you are not into crabs, they have a nice menu to accomodate almost everyone. So, when you order your crabs you can order a 'bucket of Rocks' (Rolling Rock beer or whatever your favorite is) and they'll bring a bucket with beer & ice so you have your beer right there when you want it.
Favorite Dish: CRABS!! They're steamed just right, proper/ample amount of seasoning. And are steamed when you place your order, so you know they are fresh.
You come for the hard shell steamed crabs. Don't even bother looking at the menu, unless you're looking for some sides.
Favorite Dish: Crabs aren't on the menu. You have to ask what kinds of crabs they have. The answer will come in a set of numbers: 24s, 48s, 62s, etc. Those numbers are prices per dozen. (As you can tell, crabs are not cheap!)
The best way to tell what size you want is to look around at the table next to you, and see what size they're having. People are friendly, and sometimes will hold them up for you to see.
You may also want to ask where the crabs are from, since they are not always from Maryland. Also, if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about, ask if they're "heavy." That means filled with meat.
As far as eating them, well, you'll need instructions from someone else!
If you're looking for good Crabs, go to the East side of town! Essex, Dundalk and Middle River are blue collar neighborhoods, with great local crab dishes.
Here at Mr. Bill's, expect paper covered tables, and the possibility of sitting with people you don't know.....
Favorite Dish: Here my brother, Jason, and I enjoy some fresh steamed crabs. The seasoning has rock salt, cumin and pepper, but the true recipe is a secret...... It's more fun to eat there than try to make it at home anyway...
