    Samos: Great Greek Grub

Clean and busy local restaurant. Very friendly waitresses. They helped me select vegetarian (not vegan) choices. All the food I saw being served looked great. Always crowds, no reservations, no credit cards.

Favorite Dish: All the dishes are worth trying. Nice appetizers. Great greek salads.

    Samos: great Greek

Samos is special. Once you eat there, you'll wonder how you ever survived without it. It's where the local cops, letter carriers, and everyone else eats.

It's a very plain and simple place, a little too well lit, but is friendly and casual. You can bring your own beer or wine.

They do not take reservations, and you have to prepare to wait on Thursday nights, sometimes, but always on Friday and Saturday evenings.

When they get very busy, which is often, they take the phone off the hook. Don't let the busy signal discourage you.

Favorite Dish: The Greek salad is above average, with fantastic lemony dressing.

For appetizers, try the taramasola, melatanzata, or stuffed grape leaves. The homemade soups posted on the board are also always a good bet.

For sides, you have a choice of rice, french fries, or lemon potatoes. Go for the lemon potatoes.

The offerings are straightforward Greek. You can't go wrong with the gyro platter, or anything else that Nick makes in the kitchen. If you see a lot of people with fried calamari, get it; it probably means that Nick's aunt, calamari fryer extraodinaire, is cooking!

The portions are huge. But, make sure you get the creamy, comforting rice pudding for dessert.

    Samos: Yasso, Greece in Baltimore

by msisam Updated Jan 30, 2004

This "Greek Town" restaurant has expanded recently to make more room for tables, which makes you wait longer to be seated during the busy dinner hours, but it's worth the wait. The only problem is trying to talk over the noise of the restaurant. Acoustics are not very good. You strain to hear your companion talking, but whatever, you are busy eating great ethnic food.

Favorite Dish: I had pasta with grilled chicken, sundried tomatoes, and artichokes--yummy. The greek salad is awesome and filling too. You can bring you own wine or beer since they don't have a liquor license if you have to drink while you eat.
