With almost 80 years in the same location under it's belt, Patterson Bowl is a true taste of Baltimore living. There is a community feel to this establishment ... with folks calling out to each other as they enter and exit, six packs of beer being brought to the lanes, and the whole family coming out to play.

With a smaller ball than regular bowling ... the 2-4 pound ball has no holes and being so light means those who can't play a tradtitional game can still play duckpin and have a blast. You grab the ball with one or two hands and let 'er rip down the lane. You get 3 balls per frame, so you also have more chances to score points knocking down pins.

Patterson's house rules are simple: No cursing, pick up your trash, report spills immediately, wear your bowling shoes, don't be deliberately hard on the equipment, and be courteous to the bowlers in the next lane. Gee, even I can follow these rules ;)

Now add a huge number of VT meet participants, some beer and contraband tequila and you have an evening of great fun.

If you can lift and swing a 4-pound ball, then you can enjoy DUCKPIN BOWLING which combines the elements of fun, excitement, challenge, competition and sociability into one fantastic activity. I have been a ten-pin bowler for many years, carrying a 172 average, so I enjoy bowling. But this game completely stymied me. Mark ( the alley manager ) gave me a few pointers. I finally felt comfortable with the three-step method ( left - right - left - bowl ). For my first attempt I managed a respectable 122. Not bad for my first time.
The oganizers - Frank, Ellielou & Larry, did a wonderful job of organizing this event. It was a fun outing and a great way to get to know other VT'ers. Everyone had a wonderful time. Oh yes, and there was some bowling too!!!

Duckpin bowling is apparently very popular here. Patterson Bowl is an old time alley where you bring your own alcohol. After a long speech about the dangers of bowling and the vast number of crippling injuries that are likely to occur, you are ready for a night of fun.
