Walking in Little Italy
Located a very short walk east of the Inner Harbor, Little Italy is a friendly and unique neighborhood in Baltimore. From the Feast of Saint Anthony in June and the Feast of Saint Gabriel in August, it seems this area is always lively and entertaining. Saint Leo's Roman Catholic Church dominates the area and is the center of the community. Other sights in the area include the Christopher Columbus Monument, the Flag House, and the Baltimore Public Works Museum. And most important to the area are its restaurants such as Ciao Bella, Della Notte, Sabatino's, and Germano's.

We were fortunate enough to be touring Little Italy during the "Festival of St. Anthony" - a massive street fair with lots of shopping, food, and drink. It was a very happy place, despite the enormous crowd!
Cost was $1 per person to enter the festival. Almost anything Italian was there though - pizza, cannolis, beer, Italian Ice, etc. I ended up paying a few $ for a draft of an Italian beer, but could have easily spent a lot more had I not just eaten lunch.
We were fortunate enough to have this as part of our walking tour, so we also got to learn about some of the architecture and history of the neighborhood,
A great little place to stop!
Christopher Columbus Monument
"Dedicated to the City of Baltimore by the Italian American Organization United of Maryland and the Italian American Community of Baltimore in Commemoration of the discovery of America," reads the text etched at the base of this statue of Columbus, the man who is credited with discovering America. His statue is surrounded by flags offset in a quiet park next to the Baltimore Public Works Museum.

This is a very pretty neighborhood that has retained its ethnic Italian character. It is very pleasant to walk around.
Just a few minutes stroll from the Inner Harbor, this neighborhood is bustling with great restaurants, pastry shops, and even bocci courts!
One of the nicest areas in Baltimore is Little Italy. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from. Maybe a bit too much of a good thing, cause you can never choose which restaurant to go to.
