Favorite thing: One of the great things about living in Maryland was that every first week of November, Mother Nature would lose her mind and turn our back yard into a kalaidescope of colors. Of course, it really sucked to have to rake up all these leaves, but they certainly were beautiful while they stayed on the trees.
I never paid much attention to Ellicott City before my daughter moved there. I must confess I still don't go many places there. We just go directly to our daughter's house.
Fondest memory: My daughter was still in England when the closing was done on her house, so Bob and I went on the final walk-through with our grandson. This gave me a chance to visit one-on-one with him.
Favorite thing: The Old Main Line was built by the B&O Railroad in 1830. The route went from Ellicott City to Baltimore. The original transport was by horse drawn cars. The famous race between the Tom Thumb Steam locomotive and horse drawn car took place here in Ellicott City. And although the boiler blew off and steam locomotive lost the race, history was already moving on and the steam locomotive was on its way.
Favorite thing: The railroads which played such an important part in the history of Ellicott City are still here today also. The B & O Railroad Museum is open for visitors. On the weekends you can see actors dressed in period clothing leading tours of the museum and the city. There are also Civil War enactments located here.
Favorite thing: Just before entering Ellicott City on Frederick Road from Baltimore County you will see these large silo's from the flour mills. These are part of the original mills that are responsible for the creation of Ellicott City. The mill is still working today and are an important part of the history of Ellicott City.
There are many many small and large antique stores around the Main Street area. All the windows facing the Main Street are interestingly displayed with interesting items.
The Main Street is only a narrow two-lane two-direction street, windows usually reflect the scene on the other side of the road.
I'm not really sure. This area is mostly for educational purposes. But I do feel that Ellicott City is in the center of most places. I mean it is really near some of the highways and routes for travel.
Fondest memory: To be honest with you, I really love my life at school. There I have lots of fun learning and making friends. Ellicott City is located in Howard County. Lots of nice schools are in this area. The people here are very nice. So when I'm away, I always think about my friends and home here.
Favorite thing: We really enjoyed the friends we met in our small Ellicott City neighborhood. We are still in touch with many of them, even though we live almost as far as possible from them now.
Favorite thing: The owner of the giftstore behind him is showing off all the fun shapes of soap bubbles (some of them area huge!) made out of the loops.
Favorite thing: These two blue doors are of a church on the street behind (and above) the Main Street. Part of the Ellicott City is hilly.
Favorite thing: Old pebble stone area with stone houses, my favorite. Behind the stone house, there is a happy creek.
Brick pedestrian area leading to the Main Street. The bridge (left picture) is across a quiet creek.
The right was outside of a floral store on Main Street, full of country charm.
Favorite thing: The Main Street. Many stores lined up along the Main Streets. The architecture on this street is very interesting.
