There is something for everyone on the boards. People watching, swimming, rides, old time photo studios, eat in/eat out restaurants, stores, stores, and more stores.
Zen Note:
Must take kids to boardwalk and spend lots of money, all will have fun and good for KARMA all around!

Assateague Island is located just 15 minutes from the Ocean City. Island offers its visitors uncrowded beaches, bicycle paths, hiking trails, over sand vehicle routes, and canoe excursions. And, of course, the main sight is an up-close look at its famed ponies (over 150 wild ponies)! The island is surrounded by ocean and bay. So there are opportunities for fishing and crabbing.

"The heart and soul of Ocean City is the Boardwalk area" - say locals. Ocean City's world-famous boardwalk stretches from the downtown inlet all the way to 27th street. Along the 3-mile-long (1,8 km) boardwalk promenade, popular activities include bike riding, shopping in the unusual and gift shops, visiting the amazing amusement parks and dining at the large assortment of boardwalk restaurants.
The Boardwalk was created about 100 years ago by hotel owners with help from the city. Since that time, the Boardwalk is a focal point of the town where numerous festivals, events and parades take place.

The Boardwalk: The main attraction to visitors. A wide boardwalk on the beach with tons of shops and resturants on the side. There is an amusment park at the begining of it and it keeps going till 30th St I think. It is always very corwded even around midnight!
If you're not into the touristy stuff then you should not be in Ocean City to start with :)
However, you can avoid The boardwalk and try some of the sports and outdoor fun Ocean City has to offer if you happen to be a sport's aficionado! Whether it's JetSki to Golfing,Parasiling or Fishing, Ocean City has it all.
For starters, Ocean City is fav with golfers. Within 20 miles of Ocean City, there are12 golf courses, from which eight are champoinship courses!!
For those die hard fishermen, you can charter a boat and go fishing in one of the richest waters on the east coast. You can fish for anything, Bluefish,Tuna,Marlin or even a Mermaid! Is this where I get my fish you ask? naaah .. I get it from the frozen section in my local supermarket! :)
You can also fish from the pier. I think you pay a small fee like $2 to go stand and wait and wait and wait for a fish to take the bait!
The bayside of O.C. is also for beginners to learn Jet Ski and windsurfing.
The ocean side, provides some strong waves for surfers and body surfers.

This is where lots of wild horses live. It's so cool. You can camp there, but we didn't. We just drove over in the evening, and everything was closed. We drove around, and there were horses everywhere. Then we went outside and got up close with them. It was amazing.

I didn't think nude sunbathing was legal on Ocean City's family-oriented beaches, but I saw this lady lying out near 137th Street. Kind of disgusting!

Here is the Speed boat from the shore. The tail spray is a favorite, (for boys & men) funny, it is called a 'Rooster Tail', hmmmm.

On Assateague Island State Park , if you are tired from a long day, you can drive on the Island and still see the Ponies roaming free by your vehicle.
