    Water close to the Road

Chesapeake on the left, Lake Conroy on the right

Because the park is very low-lying, there often is a problem with high water coming over the roads. During Hurricane Isabel, when the tidal surge came up more than 5 feet above the highest tide level, the roads at Point Lookout were severely damaged, and the park was closed for a considerable time to be repaired.

Due to the extensive damage from Isabel, the miniature golf course has been dismantled and permanently closed.

    Museum sign and family

Be aware that due to staffing problems, this museum is only open on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) until the end of October. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.

My son and his family were here on a Wednesday. To get to the museum, you need a number to operate an entrance gate . If you try to go IN on the OUT road, you will go over those tire spikes.

I called the number on one of the bulletin boards, and there was a ranger there. He got the combination for the gate and opened the museum for us for about a half an hour.

    Sign

This sign was posted at the park when we visited. It wasn't a problem, since we didn't intend to swim anyway. The restriction was lifted within the week.
