New Ideal Diner: New Ideal Diner

by b1bob

I've only passed through Aberdeen, Maryland, in Harford County to the northeast of Baltimore, but I've had the fortune of stopping at the New Ideal Diner. It looks like what one would imagine as a typical mis 20th Century diner. For 1/3 of the price, New Ideal Diner does a better crab cake than the Rusty Scupper on Baltimore's Inner Harbour. No creamy crab cakes here! I had a crab cake sandwich with plenty of fries. The New Ideal Diner only has a view of the railroad tracks and I-95, but what it lacks in view it makes up for in quality of food.

Rusty Scupper: Scupper for supper?

by b1bob

If the Rusty Scupper has one thing going for it, it's the view of nearly the whole of Baltimore's Inner Harbour. I thought my normally frugal boss had gone mad taking us to this restaurant when I saw the prices on the menu particularly since Anthony, Jackie and George were with us. That was as out of character as the tour of the Inner Harbour itself. Usually on these trips, we do our business, go to our hotel and we're on our own steam until the following morning. I could hardly visit Baltimore without ordering crab cakes. However, I was greatly disappointed because I knew they weren't supposed to be creamy. At that time (June, 1994) I had never heard of making mayonnaise a part of the crab cake recipe, reasoning that it would pop unmercifully on frying. The fries were good, the service was passable, and the ambience was great, but the disappointing crab cake severely lowered the...

Pargo's: Spirited Food?

by b1bob

Pargo's serves American style food not unlike Applebee's or Ruby Tueasday's. Instead of a national chain, it seems to be unique to Maryland. I like to have their chicken tenders dipped in honey mustard sauce served with fries.

Aldo's Italian Restuarant: Baltimore: Aldo's Ristorante Italiano

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse: Baltimore: Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

by Jacquelynn

This may be a famous chain of restaurants, but they're definitely worth mentioning. In Maryland you will find them in Annapolis, Baltimore, Bethesda, and Pikesville. The one in Baltimore was voted #1 of the Top 10 places to get steak in Baltimore. The food was great, with the filet actually melting in your mouth as advertised. The side dishes come large enough for two so be prepared to share. The service and ambiance were perfect. Especially enjoyed were the sports memorabilia decorating the walls of the "Player's Room" dining area. The most tender filet ever...

Wild Orchid Cafe: Annapolis: Wild Orchid Cafe

by Jacquelynn

A quaint, yet spectacular dining experience! This Cafe is a jewel to be found in the neighborhood where it operates. Try to dine outside in the serene garden, surrounded by fresh flowers, and listening to birds and the trickle of the nearby fountain. Everything was good. Especially enjoyed was the Butternut Squash Crab soup.

Carrol's Creek Cafe: Annapolis Waterfront with GOOD food

by Radiomom

Annapolis has long been a spot for tourists. It is the state Capitol of MD, and the home of the Navy Academy. Since there are lots of tourists, there are also lots of restaurants. Some are horrible and some are mediocre. But this is one that is very, very good. It is across the Spa Creek Bridge from the Annapolis Harbor "loop" but has a large area of waterfront outdoor seating as well as wonderful views from inside when the weather isn't conducive to being outside. It is casual, but nice enough for a special dinner. The menu is the perfect size, and provides some really nice combinations of flavors and texture. Plus there is a decent wine list with <$30 selections of both red and white that go great with seafood. Starter: Sea Scallops rolled in shredded phyllo, fried crisp, and served on a bed of wilted spinach, jumbo lump crab and proscuitto ham Main: Macadamia Encrusted Mahi baked...

Chris's Charcoal Pit 1946 West...

by msazadi

Chris's Charcoal Pit1946 West St., Annapolis We eat here a lot when I am too tired to cook.Chris's Charcoal Pit, 'Home of the Famous Gyro,' is your typical sub/sandwich/pizza place, with the exception of the famous gyros, of course. Boasting 'authentic Greek and Italian food,' Chris's menu includes lasagna, chicken parmesan, a shrimp platter, hot and cold subs, New York style pizza, souvlaki, greek salad, and various salad platters.Lunch and dinner entrees: $8.95-$10.95Hot and cold subs: $4.50-$5.50Pizza: $9.50-$12.50A Famous Gyro: $5.25-$5.95CASH ONLYHours: TUE-SAT 11:00AM-9:00PMCLOSED MONDAYs and when the owners go on vacation!Chris's is quirky in that you can get oodles of creamers with your coffee, but you have to ask for each and every packet of Sweet & Low! I like the chicken gyro with tzaki sauce and french fries. The pizza is also great and is one of my husband's favorites.

Crabs! and more crabs!

If you're looking for good Crabs, go to the East side of town! Essex, Dundalk and Middle River are blue collar neighborhoods, with great local crab dishes. Here my brother, Jason, and I enjoy some fresh steamed crabs at Bill's Terrace Inn in Essex.
