There are many great restaurants in Maryland, but my favorite is Harris' crab house on Kent Island near the Chesapeake Bay (about one hour from Washington, DC)This is a no nonsense crab and seafood house where almost any attire will do. If you eat crabs, plan on getting messy. Don't worry, it is worth it. Plan on spending about $30 per person, and enjoy the view of the bay. Hard shell crabs. A MUST!

Any place with crab... but if you happen to find yourself trapsing past That's Amore, then why not go in? Diner is usually family-style Italian food. Which means that you order a few dishes and share with everyone. The portions are slightly over-whelming if you have less then four people, so bring an army. Actually, I'm not sure if they have crab, but their food is great any way. The meatballs are a must-have and I'd recommend the stuffed mushrooms also.

Papermoon Diner: Papermoon Diner

by lotus_sutol

Everything about this restaurant is unique. From the twisted twigs holding up curtians- to the antique dolls crawling up the walls- army men hanging from light fixtures- I'd call this an experience one shouldn't miss. The food is fabulous- vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters can all delight at this fabulous 24 hour restaurant located nearby Johns Hopkins University. California Dream:Avocado, fresh basil and vine-ripe tomato between two crispy tortilla shells with melted cheddar and swiss cheese served with a side of salsa and sour cream. Simply delicious. Their omelets are the closest I've had to heaven since the ones I had in North Beach -San Francisco.

El Salto Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn Park. Perhaps Baltimore's best kept secret. The food is unpretecious, inexpensive and the service is consistently expedient. Dinner for two without alcoholic beverages will run you about $20 including tip.Feels like a down home Mexican Joint Tacos Pollo Asado. Spice with special sauce. Or the Jalisco Especial.

Outta the Way Cafe: Outta the Way Cafe

by Blondie2

This is a locals kind of place that always has live music on the weekend. All diferent kinds of people frequent this place. It's a neighborhood kind of place that is remarkably worth a visit. Full bar also. Weekly specials that are fabulous. Exploding Meatloaf Casserole is very popular.

Blondie2's Restaurant Tip

by Blondie2

Don't miss the crabs if you have the opportunity in the summer time here in Maryland. Although recent harvests haven't been quite as plentiful as usual, it still is one of those quintessential Maryland experiences. You don't have to be at the beach (Ocean City has dozens of seafood places) inevitably your favorite local beer joint will offer them in season.

In the Maryland Suburbs:Hard Times Cafe (chili, burgers & beer)Has a friendly 'local' atmosphere and the food is consistently good. Texas, wet with onions & cheese, no beans & extra sour cream and corn bread on the side.

DrewV's Restaurant Tip

by DrewV

I'm not sure how much the restaurant matters, but the important thing is that you eat steamed Chesapeake Bay Crabs. This is very crucial. It's like going to Memphis and not having barbecue, or going to Italy and not having pasta and wine. You're in Maryland! Eat a crustacean!

Vera's White Sands Restaurant...

by Ric

Vera's White Sands Restaurant & Marina near Lusby. This is southern Maryland's retort to Trader Vic's and the Bali Hai, truly an historical edifice just flirting on the edge of camp. It is a 1940s Polynesian restaurant replete with bamboo decor, hanging glass fishing balls, tiki statues, and bar tables with legs in the shape of elephant's trunks. It is on a promontory overlooking St. Leonard's Creek and even has its own marina, so guests can arrive by boat. Every place setting has a paper lei and the mai tais haven't suffered much in their translation to the East Coast. The owner, Vera, is a lively septuagenarian with a bit of Mamie Stover and Doris Duke all rolled into one. She frequently appears in the evenings (her approach communicated to guests in hushed tones) and holds court from one of the peacock chairs strategically placed around the restaurant, or in front of her portrait that...
