Silver Spring Things to Do

  • Convenient location

Silver Spring is a Maryland suburb of Washington, DC and is convenient for visits to DC, Baltimore, Annapolis, and Northern Virginia. Many historical landmarks are easily accessible within a 2 hour drive including national monuments, the Captial of the US, Civil War battlefields, homes of early presidents, and natural landmarks such as the...

  • All Aboard to Silver Spring

If you have a car, Silver Spring, Maryland is only a 15-minute drive from the hubbub of downtown Washington (take 16th St. all the way). This makes it an attractive place to live for those who work in DC. It is also a good option for travelers who need to be in DC but don’t want to pay sky-high DC hotel prices. The trip to Silver Spring from Reagan...

  • Heigh Ho Silver

Why is Silver Spring called Silver Spring? Because of the spring, of course. It goes back to 1840, when Elizabeth, the daughter of Francis Preston Blair, was riding her horse in the great outdoors. There were no cell phones to occupy a person’s mind in those days, so she pulled out a letter. It turned out to be a love letter from the man she would...

Silver Spring Restaurants

  • Ethiopian melange

Silver Spring has a lot Ethiopian restaurants and I picked this one up firstly because we got a great online deal and secondly because it didn't matter to me which exact place we ate, since it was the first time I was going to try something African. The restaurant has a nice African feel (i think so..never been to any African country) to it. The...

  • Awesome North Indian Halal

The food here is very earthy, spicy and Indian. Its a simple place with average interiors and amazing food.If you are a FOB from India or Pakistan, or someone who loves Mughlai cuisine, this is the place to go! I was here on a recommendation to eat the nahari. Nahari is a b'fast item in my hometown, Hyderabad, India. The nahari here had a similar...

It is Irish owned which adds to the ambiance. I am a great fan of Ireland so I have enjoyed my dining experiences here. -Once I had the Sunday brunch which is a Prix Fixe. I had the Irish breakfast which is the usual from Ireland ( Rashers, bangers, black & white pudding, eggs, baked beans, grilled tomato, fries or mash potatoes) And I got a Bloody...

Middle Eastern fare with an accent on appetizers, many of which are vegetarian friendly, and also Glutten Free. You have the choice of carry out or dine in. The food was good and reasonably priced. And the menu is large. I looked online first so I had my choice already made.I ordered the Mediterranian Mezza Platter for $9.95. It consisted of...

Mmmyyyyeeeeesss. I do. This was one of the first Ethiopian places I actually went to (by now I have been to close to 10 Ethiopian restaurants in the U.S.), and I took someone there to introduce them to the cuisine. I remember the food to be very well made and tasty. Another good Ethiopian place to eat at!

  • Good Food, Good Prices, Great Service

Much of this restaurant's charm is in the people who work there. They're warm, friendly, quick, efficient, and patient... including the busboy, who was very young, but unfailingly polite and hard-working. My husband and I visited this restaurant on a Monday night around 8 PM. The exterior is cute and friendly, if a bit cheap-looking. The waitress...

Silver Spring Transportation

  • The Most Fun Way (I Think) To Travel

I love the Metro. It's fun to watch people (not for too long, though) and to speed through tunnels. It's more expensive than the bus, but way cheaper than a cab. It's kinda dirty too, but that's public transportation for you. If you don't have a car, just grab some friends, have someone drop you off at one of the many Metro stations around town,...

Silver Spring Shopping

  • For all you rich folks... (once again,...

Montgomery Mall is located in Bethesda, where all the rich people live. LOL. Seriously though, there are around 183 stores packed into 2 levels of shopping... bliss? Anyhow, this is where you can get your Abercrombie, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Tommy Hilfiger, and more brand names that only rich or crazy people can afford. LOL. And for people like...

I used to work at Wheaton Mall (at American Eagle, before it was replaced by yet another urbanwear retailer). This collection of 130+ stores (including Old Navy, Gap, Rave, Jean Machine, and Up Against the Wall) is located among a rapidly growing Hispanic population in the Metro area. The multicultural influence in Wheaton is more than apparent as...

City Place is a 50+ store mall located in the heart of downtown Silver Spring. You can expect to find stores like Nordstrom Rack, Ross, and Marshalls. It's not my favorite mall, but I've scored a few good finds there.

This is just a part of my family - my Dad's 80th birthday party - Mom & Dad, my 3 brothers and most of their families, my 3 sisters and most of their families, and myself. The best thing about Silver Spring is sharing it with my family (most of whom live 150 miles away in Pennsylvania!)

Always tip!! People are pretty friendly, say hello. Use your descretion. Watch out for cabbies. The fastest way to get anywhere is to use the Beltway after r-hour, Or have someone with you who is familiarwith the area you are going to. Or have someone give you the best way to go., because some of them will try to beat you.

Silver Spring What to Pack

  • by Jayden Written Aug 25, 2002

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: There is alot to see, so I would suggest sneakers or flat shoes. In the summer it gets really hot, 90's and above and extemely humid, so shorts are a must. Winters are mild to me. You can wear a jacket up till early Nov.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: your normal stuff. Can

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Most beaches close at 9-10p. No alcohol. Summer night are warm, but not as humid. Pretty nice.

Miscellaneous: Always have a camera, there is so much to see in MD.and DC.
