Maryland Tourist Traps

  • Inner Harbor

    Baltimore Tourist Traps

This is supposed to be one of the Inner Harbor's premier attractions. Well, there's not much to it. Located on the southwest side of the Inner Harbor, near Federal Hill, the building looks impressive. But once you get inside, and pay the $14.50 admission fee, you'll find that it's more of a children's playground than a real museum. There's hardly...

    Baltimore Tourist Traps

The building looks very nice and modern from outside. First, you have to pay 20$ per person to enter. You see a large aquarium with some sharks, some small aquariums around the first and second floors. The largest part of the building is for fast food restaurants and shops. They sell lots of "souvenirs" of thnigs they even don't have inside. If...

    Baltimore Tourist Traps

A tourist trap in all of the modern sense. Here you will find a Hard Rock Cafe, ESPN Zone and a Barnes and Noble Book Store. Although I half heartedly call this a tourist trap I must admit that I always check out the Hard Rock Cafe when I visit city. I collect Hard Rock Tee Shirts, although I do not own one from my home town here.

    Baltimore Tourist Traps

I'd hoped to really see something special here, but it turned out that the EAPH is pretty far west, in a neighborhood that is pretty questionable. Do like I did and show up when its closed, its easy, snce its only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays and even then only for a few hours and not guaranteed. Call 410-396-7932 before you go. In theory they...

  • Parking

    Baltimore Tourist Traps

Many of the parking garages that the flow of traffic will take you by are extremely overpriced, upwards of $20 after only 2 hours. I mean, in NYC maybe, but this is Baltimore! If you are forced to park in one of these, especially the one off of Pier 5, remember that you must pay your ticket at the machine BEFORE you leave, you have to physically...

  • Deep Creek Lake

Deep Creek Lake is the largest man-made reservoir in the state of Maryland. It was created in 1923 when the Pennsylvania Electric Company erected a dam on a branch of the Youghiogheny River to create hydroelectic power. In 2000, the state purchased the lake.Nowadays, Deep Creek Lake is one of the most popular resort areas in Maryland. Thousands of...

  • PawPaw Tunnel

Not a tourist trap at all, but rather something interesting to see; the Paw Paw tunnel is a portion of the C&O Canal that travels over 5,000 feet through a mountain cut.You can walk through along the towpath. It gets very dark in the center, we 'felt' our way through the darkest portion. It was fun ;-)
