Of course the most famous Washington Monument is the one in the nation's capitol; but the monument in Washington Monument State Park in Maryland was the first one built in memory of the father of our country. It was constructed in 1827 by citizens of the nearby town of Boonsboro. Today there is a state park here complete with the monument, a museum, and a few hiking trails. You can also access the Appalachian Trail here. Hours are 8 AM to Sunset (April to October) and 10 AM to Sunset (November to March).
