I had not been to O'Lourdan's Irish Pub in several months and returned this past weekend to find them in a sorry state. The food was tasteless and bland (had a spicy appetizer, the Jameson's Steak tips, and it needed some spice...omg). The atmosphere used to have a real flair for the Celtic and those proud of Irish heritage. Again, not the same anymore...they had a 'rock' band there this past weekend. When I used to go it was Celtic Rock bands and bagpipes...no more! To add insult to injury, the bathroom was a dirty, smelly mess. I am saddened and disheartened to know that this restaurant has gone so far downhill but it really has...when you get there, just keep on driving by!
Favorite Dish: Nothing.
We’ve been following this restaurant since they first started out – met them at a food festival, tried their restaurant, and have been going back ever since. All food served is made from scratch – even the potato chips! They take great care in the quality of their food and service.
The restaurant is a fun place to go. Based on the theme of Hollywood legends, there are movie posters from the 50s and 60s and flat screen televisions play old classic movies. Even at Christmas, their tree is decorated with ornaments of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Betty Boop, and more!
The food has some interesting names – in fact, just reading the menu is fun! But the food is delicious. Instead of chips while you wait for your meal, you are served popcorn with flavored sprinkled toppings (goes with the movie theme!).
Favorite food – I get something different every time I go, but I like their salads and really enjoy their sandwiches.
THE place in Westminster to get homemade ice cream! On hot summer nights, there is usually a crowd and you can see lots of people just sitting around outside licking their ice cream cones or eating their sundaes. All ice cream is homemade and they made ice cream cakes for special occasions. They have more than 50 flavors to choose from!
Hoffman’s is family owned and family operated – has been since 1947.
Hoffman’s is located on Route 32 just down the road from Westminster High School.
This small Mexican restaurant is growing in popularity and size. A family run place that serves up authentic and delicious Mexican meals at good prices. Their homemade salsa is fantastic – they have a salsa bar on some nights. Service is always friendly and food served hot and tasty!
Favorite meal would be the fajitas, steak or chicken, served with rice and beans.
Hands down, this is my favorite restaurant in Westminster! An Irish pub with delicious traditional Irish food (and some Maryland favorites) and an interior that is authentic! So many times I sat in front of their fire and had to remind myself I was still in the States! The service it top notch and the food is awesome; everyone is always friendly here, whether you are here for dinner or just drinks. It can get pretty crowded at dinner time, so if you are able to come earlier, that is better. On nice days they have a patio for outside dining and several rooms in the restaurant along with the bar area.
On Tuesdays-Fridays, stop in during happy hour for their ½ price specials – certain food and drinks.
Best meal – try the Blarney Burger – comes with waffle fries and coleslaw. During happy hour it is under $5! But after you taste it, you’d be more than willing to pay full price!
They also do St. Patrick’s Day up pretty big at this restaurant! One waitress told me that no one gets time off the entire week of St. Patrick’s!
The restaurant is in a stone building near the corner of Main Street and Route 26 – right in the middle of downtown. There is public parking on both sides of the street – after 5:00 pm parking is free.
Cheap food served among the good old boys of Curl Canny, Merlin (or Carroll County, Maryland to non-natives). Anything made with apples is a good bet (they are connected with their own orchard) and the ice cream is great (although many prefer Hoffman's across town).
Favorite Dish: Fried chicken livers, followed by apple pie a la mode.
