The Bell in Hand has always been one of my favorite spots in the Faneuil Hall area. During the day, you can sit by the large open windows and enjoy a fine summers day. At night they usually have a live band and a huge crowd to keep the place rocking. Nothing fancy, but the Bell in Hand claims to be America's oldest bar, in operation since 1795. Today, due to the prime location, you get a great mix of locals and tourists that always make an evening entertaining.

Not much stands out about this place as it is a good sports bar in a city full of good sports bars. It is apparently the oldest in America, so they have gotten really good at they do...catering to tourists. At night there is no real reason to go here as you have a wide selection of bars in Boston. During the day bar food is served which is rather good, if not a bit overpriced for the size. However, definitely stop in sometime for a quick drink and Red Sox game so that can enjoy the same atmosphere as years long past.

The Bell in Hand Tavern, established in 1795, is the oldest continuously operating tavern in America. Its pub grub menu will allow you to taste some of New England's finest tavern delicacies and when you're done eating, you can move on to the second section of the tavern for a bit of live music (I can't remember the name of the band that was playing the night we were there but they were very good). I'd definitely recommend going there for a drink or 2 or 3 - the atmosphere of the place is quite unique and service was great too!

The Bell in Hand is America's Oldest Tavern. It was established in 1795 by Jimmy Wilson, the Town Crier of Boston.
The Tavern offers a good variety of beer along with a fairly standard menu of Pub Food. We opted for a sampler platter to go with the beers and it was enough for two to share.
