  • Jake Ivory's: Don't show you're having a good time...

We were in Boston on a bachelor party... there was 12 of us. We were not walking hand in hand with one another, so we were using louder than normal talking. This, it seems, constituted us being labeled as visibly intoxicated and NOT PERMITTED into 4 bars on Lansdowne Street. Such a perdicament.... we were all very well intact and not sloppy drunk, just talking and having a good time. Do the bars want you to walk up to them quiet, in single file, and looking straight ahead? This was the dumbest thing I have ever seen in any night life spot in the country. Bouncers need to take come classes in visibly intoxicated.

Other theories were they were not letting guys in that early. Ladies only? Not sure. Maybe there was some unwritten dress code? Again, not sure. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It's touristy, hokey, and it can be expensive. However, it's still worth a trip. We had my sister's bachelorette party here, and she had a great time. Two pianos, an occasional guitar, a drumset, and very adaptable musicians set the tone for a raunchy, fun, wild night. I wouldn't recommend the packages (bachelorette, birthday) for the value, but the important part about them is that it guarantees that your celebrant will be called on stage. However, if you get there early, you'll probably be able to find a seat.

We had a lot of fun, and sang and danced along to tunes by Billy Joel, James, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Frank SInatra, and even the Violent Femmes (I was alone on the dance floor for that one). It was great! Warning!!! Your favorite songs my be interrupted; the musicians make their living off of tips, so they are request sluts. There are funny moments where people are bidding to stop or start certain tunes. My only complaints had to do with interrupting James' "Laid" and insulting Johnny Cash and Country Music. Oy!

It gets very crowded after Red Sox home games, so be warned.

Dress Code: Casual. People were wearing all types of clothing. We even had kilts because it was the day after St. Patrick's!

Jake Ivory's: Not your typical piano bar

Jake Ivory's is NOT your regular piano bar.

The place is open friday - saturday and features 2 amazing pianists. They are seated in the middle of the venue, 2 grand pianos facing each other. Now, I know that you're thinking this is some sort of sit-down-romantic-candle of a place but it really isn't. THey play everyday tunes, everything from hip hop to rock with a crazy piano edge. They take requests and chances are that they will play it since they know about 100 000 songs. Great place!! I had a blast! I recommend the place for everyone!

Dress Code: Casual but a lot of people are dressed club-y
