Minuteman National Park, Boston

The North Bridge located near Concord, MA. is the site where the first shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired making famous the phrase: 'the shot heard around the world.'

The site is at the very beginning of the Battle Road which traces the 22 mile British retreat from the Battles of Concord and Lexington back to Charlestown in Boston on April 19th, 1775.

Minute Man National Park covers parts of Concord, Lincoln and Lexington Massachusetts where historic sites, buildings and landscapes exist that were associated to outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The main portion of the Park is located just outside of Boston on Route 2a as you head toward Concord.

The Battle Road is the path taken by the retreating British Soldiers back to Boston after the initial shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired at the North Bridge in Concord. The portion preserved by the National Park is about 5.5 miles long and passes many buildings and landscapes. There are some monuments and several plaques describing the events that took place at various points along the Battle Road. Anyway, it makes a great trail for walking or running in the warm months of the year. In winter, the Battle Road is great for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

Starting just outside of Lexington and terminating in Concord, this park marks the march of the British as Colonial troops gathered to meet them as new of the deaths at Lexington reached colonials.
