Boloco: Great quick meal
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is one of the beat places I have had a quick, tasty, inexpensive meal. Better than any fast food joint. We were getting a bit peckish after walking around our second day in Boston and we came across this place. Originally called the "Wrap" this place specializes in what else, wraps which they call "Burritos". The place wasn't crowded and has a few tables with an open kitchen. Your food comes out fresh and quick and oh so yummy. I was told by the "cook" that during the week day lunch hours the crowds are out the door. There is a reason, their wraps are the best I have had.

I tried the ""Bangkook Burrito" a Thai-style wrap with peanut sauce, Asian slow, cucumbers, rice on a tortilla wrap and washed it down with a "Mango Passion" smoothie. Veronica had a non inspired Cesear Wrap and I think the "Cape Codder". Their Prices are just right, the wraps were $5 for the regular, $6 for the large, the smoothies were $3 for the small and $4 for the large.

Dali Restaurant and Tapas Bar: A step back to Spain
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This place oozes Spain and everything that you may think a Spanish restaurant looks like in Spain. Dali is decorated with a bohemian/gypsy decor, the walls are packed with all sorts of things, including vines and flowers hanging from the ceiling. The bar is a beautiful piece of art with a tile theme. We arrived sometime around 8 pm on a Saturday night and ordered a pitcher of Sangria and drank it at the bar while we waited for our table. The wait is on average about 40 minutes, but you don't mind as you sip your Sangria. The vibe of the place is extremely welcoming and gets better with every hour, after sipping each glass of sangria and you will see people transformed laughing, dancing and drinking the night away. The music playing is Salsa for the most part and we saw a couple trying to squeeze in a quick dance.

We ordred the sopa de ajo, patatas brava, and the langosta a la plancha. A pitcher of Sangria to wash it all down and the flan to top off a fantastic eveing.

    Davio's Boston: Northen Italian
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We wanted to have a wonderful meal at a restaurant my friend had never visited. I did some research and had a list of a few fine dining places for us to choose from. We decided on Davio's. Davio's was more than just fine dining, it was an experience. The restaurant is packed every day of the week and a reservation for a Saturday is usually 4 weeks out. We didn't have reservations since we weren't sure what time we would be back in the city, so we decided to just go and hope we'd get lucky with a table. We arrived at Davio's sometime around 8:30 pm and asked if there was a table. The restaurant was full and even the bar seemed crowded with diners. The hostess suggested we sit at the "Chef's" table which is a full service table. We were sitted at the table with the kitchen in plain view. The wait staff was excellent and the kitchen served to be a great source of entertainment. At one point, a women approached the kitchen and started ordering the wait staff around, I laughed and called her "Leona" (Helmsly), as she was like a drill sargent. We laughed and thought that she was a hostess in charge of a large party, we still aren't sure, but we can bet that she is the owner of this establishment. The dining area is huge, we estimated about 100 tables in an open area, high ceilings and dark wood throughout the restaurant. The bar was crowded and many people were enjoying a full meal there. We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed every bit of our meal. But if you are in a rush, this is not your place. They are so, busy, that it does take time for you meal to come out.

A small try of assorted olives, hummus and garlic butter are brought out with a basket of warm bread. We started our meal ordering the arugula salad which we shared and "Davio's Philly Cheese Steak Rolls with spicey Ketchup". For my main course I had the "Pan Seared Sea Scallops, Sweet Creamy Corn, Potato Millefoglie". It was delicious. My friend had the "Raised Right Free-Range Chicken, Sautéed Spinach, Whipped Yukon Potatoes, Sugo Naturale". We topped our selection with a Reisling. The meal was excellent and I would hightly recommend this restaurant. I did notice that the majority of the dinners ordered either their Veal Tenderloin or their rack of Veal, or the Steak.

Stephanie's on Newbury: Lunch with a view
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • After doing so much shopping on Newbury, we decided we needed some great food and a nice atmosphere with drinks of course. Roni had been to Stephanie's before and suggested we take our lunch here, I really wanted tapas (at Tapeo), with some yummy sangria, but I had to settle for Stephanie's (we compromised, went to Tapeo the following day). Stephanie's is a beautiful place to have more than just lunch. The interior is classy with a huge fireplace and lounger chairs. The dining area is really nice, check out their website for more details.

I really liked this place and would recommend an afternoon or early evening to enjoy a few drinks in the beautiful lounge, while you are here, have an appetizer or two. Roni had the Ahi Tuna Tartare (personally, I could only have one of these as one sitting), looked yummy though. I had the lobster quesadilla, wow, was out of this world. For drinks we each ordered a "violet haze" and Roni had the "pomegranite maritini" The drinks and food were delicious....

    Tapeo: Tapas on Newbury
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We were walking on Newbury Street and we decided to stop at this "Spainish Tapas" place. I was feeling a bit Spanish and wanted to have some Sangria, so we went inside for an inexpensive dinner. Tapeo serves some really yummy tapas. With a large selection of both hot and cold tapas, there is something for everyone. The average price is about $6 per tapas.

We ordered the patatas bravas, chorizo a la plancha, croquetas de pollo and a pitcher of Sangria.

Anna's Tacqueria: The best Mexican in all of Boston
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • If you ask any local Bostonian about a great place to have Mexican (fast food) and Anna's Taqueria is what they will say. As you walk inside you'll find yourself in a room with warm yellow walls. There are a few tables, but the major part of their business is take-out. Made fresh and fast, thhe food is simple with burritos dominating menu. Get yours as you want with either grilled chicken, pork, beef, or for those you perfer a vegetarian. Filled with beans, rice, guacamole, hot sauce (if you like) and rolled in wraps from Bread & Circus. The cost for one of these burritos is about $4. A fantastic place for a quick and cheap meal.

I ordered the chicken burrito with the works, but this burritos was huge (I couldn't finish mine).

Veronica wanted to have brunch here on Sunday, so after spending about an hour walking Newbury we popped in to enjoy brunch, a beautiful day, and people watch. Sonsie is known for their great location, great open air dinning and now their Wine Bar. I don't recall anything special. We enjoyed the beautiful day and out door dinning allowed us to do some people watching.

My friend had the Chicken and Pastrami Hash with Poached Eggs along with a Bloody Mary, I had the Classic Eggs Benedict and a Mimosa. The food wasn't anything exceptional, the service was great and the outdoor eating was nice on such a beautiful day.

Legal Sea Foods: Lobster By the Half Pound
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • My wife was in seventh heaven here! Being able to buy her favourite seafood by the half pound just made her day (much better than Dirty Harry LOL!). Funny thing is that we wouldn't have even gone to this great place if a really friendly waiter at the boston hard Rock Cafe hadn't told us about it. Great guy he was & we were really thankful he did give us the tip. And of course we tipped him quite generously in response

Well no prizes for guessing what she had. Yes, yet again you are correct folks! the Lobster indeed. And....., she was a good girl indeed, no mornay just lovely fresh lobster, but only ababy half pound one. boy did she enjoy that! But I start before the start! We both started the New England clam Chowder. What else could we remotely entertain the idea of starting with when we'd been out on the sub zero Boston streets. And boy did it hit the spot. Yummo barely begins to describe it. But what did he have you ask. Well, if you've visited my Paris page & seen the restaurant tips you will definitely get no prizes for guessing. Of course it was, Salmon - Atlantic Salmon. How can all those healthy Omega oils be just do delicious. Don't know, don't care! They are & that's all that matters! Can't remember what we paid, so I'm guessing below. Remember though that we both thought that it was very reasonable.

    J. P. Licks: Ice cream to cool you down
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This place is known in Boston as one of the best places to have a great treat. I will be honest with you, althought the ice cream was good, it wasn't out of the world great!! I've had better ice cream in "Cold Stone". If you find yourself strolling on a hot summer day on Newbury and fancy a nice cool treat, stop by and grab an ice cream, sorbet, shakes and yogurt to quench your summer heat.

For those of you that travel with you little "pups", they carry a selection of "doggy ice cream" like "Cow Paws" a non diary treat for four legged baby. I of course tried the "Mojito Sorbet" Yum!!
