Some say the Black Rose, perhaps the most famous Irish pub in Boston, isn't quite what it used to be in its heyday (they even whisper of its takeover by a conglomerate run by - gasp - an Englishman!). But it still features excellent food, fine music, and, of course, Guinness. With the slick new entrance to the Aquarium Blue Line station just a block away, the pub is an excellent place to have a final meal and/or pint in Boston before heading to Logan Airport, just two stops away.

For those looking for nightlife, the Black Rose offers live Irish music nightly. Friday and Saturday evenings, there you get two choices for entertainment: traditional Irish music downstairs, and more contemporary music upstairs (cover charge $5 on Friday and Saturday nights. TIP: To avoid the cover charge, arrive before 9PM). Quality of the musicians is excellent; some musicians who played here later joined such Irish groups as the Chieftains. Oh, and there was also one lad who later became a member of some garage band called U2.

Favorite Dish: The extensive menu ranges from traditional Irish dishes to American and New England fare. The steamed lobster is featured and is excellent, as are the steak tips, ribs, mussels, and salmon cakes. The beer-battered onion rings can be substituted for french fries with many dishes -- give them a try!

Black Rose: Miss this mock 'Irish' Pub

Obviously -whoever created this setup has never , ever been to an Irish pub.
We went in for a pint about 8.50pm, sat at the bar on stools- the place was near empty.
Bar staff busy chatting to each other - finally got a pint.
We had just started to drink when one of the staff said' sorry mate we need your stools'.
We had seen a lot of furniture removal going on.
I said that we had just come in and sat down for a quiet pint - he said 'its the rules- all the stools have to be collected at 9.00 before the crowds come in'.
He stood over us waiting for the stools - i told him that I was not moving and not going to be rushed.
Its the managers orders'
Fetch the manager'
Manager - whats the problem?'
Problem is -we have come in for a quiet pint -just sat down -when asked for our stools'
Its a safety issue'
What about customer service?
The 'Irish ' band will be here soon.
So'
We can't have stools when the band comes on'
Are they that bad?
Thats how it is -police regulations!

We supped up and went .

It's as Irish as a plastic shamrock.

Go to the Black Rose

The Black Rose is on State Street right around the corner from The Quincy Market. Ive eaten there only once, but I was so very impressed with it. The food I ordered was very delicious and authentically Irish!

Favorite Dish: I had Shepherd's Pie and a salad they both were very nice. My friend ordered a big juicy steak, and I had a bite, and that was great too!

Good selection of beers and ale too!

The Black Rose, located in the Faneuil Hall area has become "an institution" and must visit site.

Authentic cooked from scratch pub food and great entertainment with live music every night of the week.

Favorite Dish: Corned beef of course. Melts in your mouth.
