Durgin Park: Charming Historic Restaurant
Knowledgeable & friendly waitress, thanks Elizabeth! Historic old restaurant with an eclectic menu. The kitchen prepared childrens meals that were quite specific & they didn't disappoint.
Favorite Dish: Enjoyed BBQ ribs, fish & chips & made to order children's meals.
Durgin Park: Authentic New England Food
This is not a fancy place, the staff are quite blunt (but funny) and the food is old New England fare (Yankee pot roast, baked beans, New Elngland clambake meal, oysters, corn bread, chowder, Indian pudding, Apple Dowdy) It's kind of touristy but it's history goes back to the revolutionary war.
Favorite Dish: Any fish dish...simple but delish!
Durgin Park: THROW MY FOOD AT ME PLEASE
I came to Durgin Park with some former teachers when they were on their trip with the current National Honor Society members from my former high school. The food is delicious and the waitresses funny. The whole idea of this place is that the staff are supposed to be unfriendly. The plop you food in front of you as if you don't matter, but that's OK, they are supposed to be acting like that. The ruder they are they better they are at their job. This is defiantely not a place for vegetarians though. There's meat, meat and more meat here.
Favorite Dish: Prime Rib
Durgin Park: get it yourself!
If you're in the mood for outstanding food at moderate prices served by surly waitresses, this is the place to go! But don't be turned off by the waitresses - some of whom must have gone to the same charm school as the 'soup nazi'. It's part of the appeal. It doesn't take much goading to get one of the wait staff to display their unique customer service attitudes. Just remember - it's all in fun and you'll have a blast.
A few years ago when I met my dad for dinner at Durgin Park I asked our waitress for some extra butter for our dinner rolls. Without skipping a beat she pointed to a serving station about 10 feet away and said "it's right over there". That same waitress, when we had received our dessert and asked for clean spoons, said "you want me to feed you, too?". I can't wait to go back and see what kind of abuse I get next time!
Favorite Dish: Gotta have the Indian Pudding. A spicey concoction served a la mode that you will never forget. My dad's favorite!
Prime Rib is awesome, too, if you dare to eat anything other than seafood in this town.
