Thornton's motto is "Good Food, Good Friends, Good Fun", and that sums it up. This is a great local joint, filled with regulars from the neighborhood, and on game days, Red Sox fans. Indoors there is a front room with tables and a bar (sports only on the TV), and there's a back room just for dining. Outdoors there is a good-sized patio, which is perfect in the summer. (Although a few years ago it was warm enough to eat outside here the day after Thanksgiving!)
The staff is fantastic, and the prices are great. The names of the endless dishes are fun too. The salads are named after places in the Boston area, and the chicken sandwiches (and there is at least 10 of them!) are named after Jack Nicholson movies. (the Chinatown is chicken breast in teriyaki sauce with peapods and mushrooms, for example)
Noone in your party will have a problem finding something to their liking, the problem will be deciding. As I said, the choices are endless!
There is also an extensive drink menu, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
I was recently there for dinner and drinks with a party of 12, and we were taken care of impressively by the waitress. The atmosphere is fun, which is why I have been going there for years!
Favorite Dish:
I have several faves here.
The popcorn shrimp appetizer is yummy, as is the fried zucchini.
The Isabella Gardner salad is immense - it's a grilled chicken caesar salad with warm penne tossed in.
The Back Yard Burger is delicious, dripping in cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce.
But most of all, it's the fries. They are the best in town.
