There are a few shops on Newbury Street that aren't high end boutiques and the hardware store is one of them. We popped in because we foolishly didn't pack a bottle opener for our beer - and they gave us one for free. We will always pack this in future and think of the kindness of the man in the Newbury Hardware store with each beer. Wicked Awesome.

While I have been a long time fan of Raven's shop in Harvard Square, I am very excited that they opened a new shop on Newbury Street. The store is beautifully designed and is stocked with great books. Whereas the Harvard Square shop leans heavier on academic categories such as historiography, social sciences, linguistics and the like, the Newbury street store is a little heavier on Art, Architecture and Fiction....though they similarly to the cambridge shop also stock the best philosophy and history collection around.

A Doggy Bakery and Boutique, this store has everything for the pampered pet. Like most of my shopping trips, I always try seek out and find a dog boutique to stock up on new clothing, toys and treats for my little Cookie.
I had seen the "new" type of harness and leash and wanted to pick one up for her. I also picked up some great all natural treats.
What to buy: I purchased some peanut flavored all natual baked goodies, the new Puppia Soft Harness and Leash, and a few chew toys.
What to pay: The prices aren't cheap. Expect to pay above your normal pet store pricecs. The Puppia Harness was about $30 and so was the leash, the natural cookies were about $8 a bag and the chew toys ranged from about $5-$10. All for a very spoiled little girl!

I totally love this place. I swear by their "eye lash curler" the best in the market. Shu Uemuru is a speciality cosmetic store for anything a girl can want. I don't use much make-up and the eyelash curler is a must for me. I have natually long eyelashes but they need a bit of help to get them to curl.
I didn't purchase anything during this visit.
What to buy: According to their website, "Award-winning, iconic shu uemura Eyelash Curler with an exclusive design that suits all eye shapes and naturally curls lashes with out crimping them. A 2005 InStyle Best Beauty Buy and awarded as one of Town & Country's "Top 150 Best Beauty Products".

Eight city blocks of shopping for the true addict.
What to buy: Whatever you wish! Start on the west end (the cheapest and funkiest stores) and work your way east (towards the 4star, high end shops) to find just what you're looking for.

Newbury is a great street to wander, shop, walk and dine. My favorite is always popping into Kate Spade to seeing what they have. A lot of high end stores located on Newbury, so a great place to window shop, even if you're not going to buy!

Oak is a cute little boutique on Newbury Street that carries great gifts made by independent artists and designers. There is a huge variety for men, women & children. Most of the items are made locally, and often with recycled elements.
What to pay: There are products from $2 lip balms to beautiful handmade dresses!

When I seen the same of this place I knew we had to check it out! So after checking out the Virgin Music Store we stopped in here! Its very cute... not trashy as many Adult stores tend to be. But they had a lot nifty little items ( Great for gag gifts for friends) such as the worlds smallest condom, combat condoms and one that glow in the dark. Most of these cant be actually used for ... what many would normally want to get condoms for but they are fun any way. So stop in and get a condom-pop... looks like a lolipop:) and shock your friends(or not...you know who you are). This place is not for the immature crowd everyone, NO CHILDREN!
What to buy: Condoms Galore! and other adult items of course

What else can I say but Multi-level Music Wonderland~~~ Sometimes we want to remember our trips long after they are over and want better way then to by a cd from your fave artist or from a new one, to be your sound track of your trip. You were going to by it anyway and you wanted to get a souvenir for yourself anyway. ... So go make some memories already! We stopped in here when we gave up on finding the Chruch from the Boondock Saints movie. Newbury Street is a long street full of nifty stuff so you can always find something ...even if its not what you started out to find:) !
What to buy: Cd's, Sheet music, Cases, cleaners....Anything! But all the fun is next door... see my next tip!
What to pay: Retail prices for music vary.

I love candles and have them all over my home and when I want to purchase something a bit special, I make sure to pick up one of the many wonderful scented candles from Diptyque. The candles are quite pricey, at about $42-$62 for a votive size candle.
Yes, you can probably find a less expensive candle in another specialty shop, (like another of my fave places, "Yankee Candles") but it isn't the same and the scents you find in Diptyque Candles are truly unique.
Stars (like "J-Lo and Beyonce" to name a few) are know to purchase these for their wonderful aromatic long lasting scents.
The candles make a great house warming or gift for that special someone.
What to buy: Candles, what else?! They also carry a selection of 12 differnet types of scented toilet waters, soaps and vinegars.
I absolutely love their lavendar, gardenia mint and freesia scented candles.
What to pay: Ranging from $42 and up.
