Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market: Faneuil Hall
Built in 1742, Faneuil Hall has long been an integral part of downtown Boston. Originally built along the harbor as a marketplace, the city has slowly grown around Faneuil Hall. Today the first floor hosts many souvenir shops, a cafe, and a post office. The second floor is home to the famous meeting hall where the Sons of Liberty, including Samuel Adams, met to discuss the problems with the British government. In later years, the meeting hall was used by such notable people as Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Jefferson Davis, and John F. Kennedy. Upstairs from this remarkable meeting hall is the home of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, which was chartered in 1638 (http://www.ahacsite.org/). National Park Service Rangers give tours of the 2nd-floor hall every 30-60 minutes throughout the day. It is well worth waiting to hear their stories. Faneuil is pronounced "fan-yoll"

Definitely do some shopping at Quincy Market, but also remember that Boston is home to many historical sites. See the harbor, go visit Paul Revere's home, check out the aquarium, and see where the Boston Massacre took place! Get the most out of your trip to Boston!

Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market: Freedom Trail Landmark
Faneiul Hall and the Quincy Market are key elements on the Freedom Trail. Today the buildings serve as shopping centers and food stalls. The Quincy Market is a good place to stop and grab a bite to eat while walking the freedom trail.

Faneuil Hall is a good place to take people for a day out when you have visitors. This old market building, first built in 1742, sits at the site of the old town dock. It's a cobbled area with street performers, little artsy shops and rather more diverse and ethnic food places. You can take the Orange line to State Street, Green line to the nearest T at Government Center or Haymarket or Blue Line to the Aquarium. The meeting room at Faneuil Hall still serves the people of Boston as a public meeting place. Faneuil's original Hall was intended to serve Bostonians as a market place for food on one level, and a market place for ideas on the second. Today this tradition continues. The 170-year-old Quincy Market, located directly behind Faneuil Hall, served as Boston's wholesale food distribution center until the 1960s. Today, the food stalls inside this stately granite building offer culinary delights to thousands of visitors a day, selling everything from calzones to gourmet soup to frozen yogurt. Almost always crowded, Faneuil Hall is open on Sundays from noon to 6:00 PM and Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Quincy Market hours vary by store. Admission is free. It is rather touristy, but like I say, a great place to take your guests and convenient for other Boston attractions and really is at the heart of Beantown.

Faneuil Hall is a historic building located along the Freedom Trail. It was built in 1742, burnt down and rebuilt in 1761, and served as a town meeting center until the 1800's. The Hall served as an important meeting place for planning the revolution in Boston. The 1st floor of the hall is a marketplace with souvenir, craft, and memorabilia shops, and some food shops. The 2nd floor is where the actual meeting hall, the Great Hall, is located. Park rangers give brief and interesting lectures on the history and significance of the hall every half hour. The 3rd floor contains a museum for the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. The Company was formed in 1638 and has been headquartered at Faneuil Hall since 1746. Most people don't bother going up there, but it is worth a look. Faneuil Hall is open daily 9 AM - 5 PM except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. It is also closed during public functions. Admission is free.

Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market: Faneuil Hall
Faneuil Hall is the heart of downtown Boston and one of the most popular areas for locals and tourists alike to dine and shop. What is known as Faneuil Hall actually consists of two parts: the historic hall itself and Quincy Market. Quincy Market is composed of three long buildings located directly behind Faneuil Hall. The center of these buildings houses a very long food court filled a huge variety of foods-- from Boston specialities like clam chowder and lobster rolls to Chinese and Mexican favorites. The north and south buildings in Quincy Market host a variety of shops and more formal restaurants. One of the most popular is Durgin Park, which serves up colonial-style food and is very popular with tourists. The open areas between the buildings are often used to host demonstrations, musical performances and other small events. You'll find flower stands and souvinier carts here as well. In front of Faneuil Hall, the famous statue of Samuel Adams rises up from the cobblestones. This area is a must-see when you are in Boston!

Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market: Faneuil Hall
Faneuil Hall serves 2 functions. In the basement and ground floor are shops which I thought were of a good standard selling quality souvenirs, Many of the items referred to the Independance from the British Crown and the early constitution. An interesting view if you are a Brit !!! Upstairs, on what we Brits call the First Floor is a meeting hall in which many of the original 18th Century anti-British Meetings were held.

Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market: Faneuil Hall... you can't miss it
Fanueil Hall is a historical building in the middle of Boston which has been given a new lease of life as a marketplace. Full of little shops and food outlets the market is a great place to grab a bite if you're after the fast food variety but want to avoid the 5 major food outlets.
