The Peobody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, founded in 1866, is the first museum in the United States dealing with topic. It is the second of the two Harvard museums that I visited and is housed in the same building as the Museum of Natural History. It is particularly notable for its collection of Native American artifacts especially those held in the Hall of North American Indian. Also worth visiting are the exhibits featuring artifacts from the ancient civilizations in Central and South America. I also took particular delight in collection of pieces from the South Pacific. Entry into The Peobody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology is included in a visit to the Harvard Museum of Natural History (which I did not visit). It costs $9.00. The museum is open from 9am to 5pm.
