New State House. Here's the gold domed building that's sure to please any political buff.
Historic info: New, as in built in 1798, directly across from Boston Common. The land was once owned by John Hancock, the first elected Governor of 'the Bay State'. That gold dome was originally made out of wood shingles and is now actually copper covered by 23k gold. In the House of Representatives chambers, a wooden codfish is hung to signify the importance of the fishing industry for the commonwealth.

State House - at the entrance to Boston Commons, on Beacon Street, you can't help but see the beautiful gold-domedState House. Designed by Charles Bulfinch, it dates back to 1795 with the gold leaf added in 1874. Many historical documents are housed here, among them the original Massachusetts constitution which is the nation's oldest.

Located across from Boston Common at the top of Beach Hill.

The state house is an interesting building to check out due to it's gold dome roof. We didn't go inside.

More than just a glimmering dome, the State House is the center of Massachusetts government and politics. It's located on the Beacon Hill side of Boston Commons. Check out the night picture also.
