Bull & Finch Pub / Cheers, Boston
'CHEERS'...I would say is quite the tourist trap. If you are not familiar, it was a great tv show based on a bar in Boston. For you that already know, this place looks nothing like the Cheers bar and is not too exciting.
Cheers Bar--made famous from the show, 'Cheers'--this place looks nothing like the bar on the show--a major disappointment for me. However, they do sell merchandise with the famous Cheers logo--so you may want to hit the sales shop.
Oy--I feeling like everything is a tourist trap in Boston. It is a relatively small city, so when tourists come (mostly in the summer), the short list of 'places of interest' are all abuzz with tourists. By far the biggest tourist trap is the 'Cheers' on Beacon St. It is cool to walk by and see where the outside shots for the long-running U.S. sitcom Cheers were filmed. But the actual interior of this place is not the same as the actual Cheers (which was filmed in a studio in California somewhere) and should not be a major attraction on anyone's itinerary. Also, a lot of the restaurants in Boston are definite tourist traps--you will spend too much money for food that ain't that great, and you will probably wait in line to do so. In summer, the restaurants in the North End all have at least 40-minute waits for a table, so that you can shell $12 (minimum) for a plate of pasta and some sauce that costs the restaurant about $1 to make. Artu (the restaurant) is the worst offender, I think, because their portions are teeny and not very flavorful or interesting, yet expensive.
The CHEERS bar... I am ashamed to admit that I have never been there, even though it is a favorite among Boston's tourists ! One of these days I will go and take a picture, just so that I can express some sort of opinion about it.
The biggest tourist trap and the biggest disappointment about Boston had to be Cheers. The real bar that the TV show was based on is horribley commercialized not to mention really small. I spent 6 bucks for a pint then I saw that you can buy a Norm-burger with Frazier-fries off the menu so I split.
Cheers - the bar... the restaurant, etc. You know, the famous pub from the hit TV show. While it's kind of funny to see the entrance to this highly recognized pub, I just drove by it. There are too many other places to explore in Boston... unless you're a die hard Cheers fan. ;)
As I'd heard that the interior of the pub didn't resemble the bar in the TV show 'Cheers', I just visited it to have my picture taken outside.
Cheers is a tourist trap, but one I would recommend. Pictured is my dear Alphons from Netherlands. The show Cheers is very popular there. I will be back with more later :-)
