This really isn't a "trap" so to speak, but a very touristy thing to do. The Ducks are actually half truck, half boat vehicles used during World War II for allied invasions over beaches. This multi-purpose vehicle has been adapted to the tourism industry in a number of cities in the U.S. where streets and waterways are used for the tour route. In Boston, the long trucks are a bit much in the narrow, traffic jammed streets and I have no idea how the tour operators remain clam when driving...

If you like city tours and have never been to Boston, visitors should actually do this tour. It's about 90 minutes long covers most of the major sights in downtown Boston covering all the "firsts" Boston is famous for. After bouncing around the city, the Duck Tour will then pull around to a boat launch near Charlestown and actually enter into the Charles River. Passing through the locks near the Museum of Science, the Duck Tour will continue along the Boston side of the Charles River passing under the Longfellow Bridge before returning to the streets.

Duck Tours: Duck Tours seen as the ULTIMATE LAME OVERPRICED!
  • Tip Rating:
  • I have never been on it, but I have been harrassed by the little brats on it...quacking at me, pointing and calling me names..it's so lame and annoying. It's probably a good tourist thing, but beelive me, tell anyone you went on ti, and you look like a out-of-towner who doesn't know their way around Boston.

Bring a camera and don't harrass the passerbys.

If it's summer, go to the Swan Tour(around $10) in Cambridge side Galleria Mall, NICE! Or the Swan Tour ($3?)at The Boston Commons. You ride in a boat in our little lakes.

Duck Tours: the 'famous' Duck Boat tours-...
  • Tip Rating:
  • the 'famous' Duck Boat tours- Okay do you really want to ride around the Back Bay (and briefly in it) in a big pink boat on wheels?! If so, then head to the Prudential Bldg. Otherwise, skip it.

    Duck Tours: DUCK TOURS...billed as...
  • Tip Rating:
  • DUCK TOURS...billed as 'Boston's Only Land and Water Tour'. The 'ducks' are renovated World War II amphibious landing vehicles! Kind of a cheesy idea, but still a fun ride.... 'Ducks' depart frequently from the Prudential Center in Boston's Back Bay; for more information, please call 1-617-723-3825 or visit www.bostonducktours.com
