Boston is definately no the safest city in the U.S. Its not even on the list of the U.S's safest cities. Newton a suburb of boston is the safest city in America but Boston on the list was most closer to the 25 most dangerous cities than the 25 most safest cities. Berne1 this is to you. Your city New York New York was number 6 on the safest city list. Boston has one the the U.S's biggest gang and youth violence problem. There are daily shooting in Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and sometimes Mission Hill. East Boston which is mainly hispanic has the most stabbings.

Well, maybe we just were at the wrong place at the wrong time, but while in Chinatown we got asked if we wanted to buy coke twice.

Now, normally I would say "meh, whatever, it happens" but within the same area and in less thern 10 minutes a part on a thursday night at 11pm.....well, that sorta tells me I'm in the wrong area.

But if you are a cokehead....then by all means! go nuts!

I've been a Bostonian for over 20 years and I need to correct the previous tip saying Chinatown is on "a little bad side of town". Chinatown itself is perfectly safe and a lot of fun-restaurants, shops, bakeries, etc. For years, Washington St. that runs toward the Western side of Chinatown attracted a lot of hooligans, druggies, etc. because of the sex shops, homeless shelters, etc. That is beginning to be less and less true with the construction of the new Ritz-Carlton condos and the movement of the sex businesses to the suburbs. So enjoy Chinatown just as I do.

Boston's chinatown is pretty safe during the day and evening(dinner time). Just have some common sense. If there are some dark and shady looking people in some ally don't go down that ally. don't walk down any allies @ night.
the police have pushed out the pimps and pushers. to the out skirts.

Chinatown after 2:00am is when it get wild, all the clubs get out and everyone goes there to eat. some restraunts have a specific type of crowd that goes there to eat. safe restraunt to eat @ afterhours, ginza, imperial seafood, big fish, east ocean city, stay away from some of the others take a look inside judge for your self the crowd is pretty drunk and rowdy.
just have some common sence there are lots of gangsters that go eat out late.

The restaurant, Pho Pasteur, is in the Chinatown and when we were there, the cops were frisking a black guy for narcotic. My kid walked into the restroom and found a black guy is playing with himself (this is true). A evening of true adventure !
