John Harvard's Brew House, near Harvard Square by Jefie Located only a short walk away from campus, the Cambridge John Harvard's Brew House is a great place to go for lunch, dinner or to start the evening off with unique tasty beer! On top of its five regular brews (John Harvard's Pale Ale (Silver Medal 2000 Real Ale Festival), All American Light Lager, Nut Brown Ale (Gold Medal 2002 Real Ale Festival), Dry Irish Stout and Old Willy India Pale Ale), John Harvard's Brew House also offers great seasonal brews. But it's not only about beer - food's pretty good too and is offered at a great price, and even if the place is surprisingly big, there's still a great student joint atmosphere.
I ordered the hummus platter and it was delicious! Central Square in Cambridge is loaded with Indian restaurants. I honestly have not had a bad experience with any of them but my favorite is the Shalimar Of India Restaurant Perfectly situated near the intersection of Mass. Ave and Prospect and with amazing prices (starting at $5.95 for the lunch) and such friendly service, it is easily an old favorite. Plus it is nice to spend the day shopping and whatnot and quickly pop in for their delicious and inexpensive lunch buffet.

Hi-Rise Bread Co. is located on Brattle St., a short walk away from Harvard Square. We happened to walk passed it on our way to the Longfellow National Historic Site and decided to go back there for lunch. This little cafe is located in the Dexter Pratt House, also known as the Blacksmith House since it was immortalized as such by Longfellow in his poem "The Village Blacksmith". It is first and foremost a bakery, but on top of all the delicious baked goods you'll also find an interesting lunch menu. There's a wide selection of sandwiches, all made on freshly baked bread, and salads. You can eat inside or outside - inside offers a nice, 19th century school type of atmosphere, while outside there is a large sunny patio with just the right amount of shade. A great option if you're looking for a fresh, healthy lunch!
I ordered the chicken curry salad and it was delicious! It came to about $10 with my drink, which I thought at first was a bit much for a cafe, but it was so good and I was so stuffed when I finished it that it truly was worth the price. This is a tiny take out restaurant with maybe 3 tables. However it's in Harvard square so on a nice day you can grab some great food and sit out on the bricks in the sun and enjoy. What I love most about this place is that the guy running it always sings the name of what you order. Falaaaaaffffelllllll! Shawwwwaaaaarmaaaa! The staff is friendly and the food is always good. A bit of a line can build up at times but, in my opinion, it's worth the wait.
The shawarma salad is excellent (order it with extra hummus) and the chicken is crispy. I absolutely love the special roll up too (w/ eggplant, zucchini, tahini, onions, etc. in a grilled roll up). I've only been here once and I thought the food was good. Moroccan items are displayed around the restaurant & in the back room carpets line the floor so that you can relax in a traditional Moroccan setting while you eat.
The mint tea is refreshing & warms your heart. Try the Chicken Bastilla and the Lamb Couscous. The Border Cafe is a happening, busy Tex/Mex restaurant in the heart of Harvard Square. Margaritas, burritos, tortilla and salsa baskets and enchiladas are just a few things you will see on the menu. Not necessarily the most authentic Mexican food, but it's pretty darn good at a great price. There are two floors to this establishment and many tables, so even with a wait to get in (which there has always been every time I have gone here) it usually isn't that long and it's a festive, relaxed place so you can even grab a margarita and hang out at the bar while waiting. Not very fancy, no need to wear anything other than some jeans and a t-shirt. Now that I have actually been to Spain, I can say without doubt that the Dali Restaurant and Tapas Bar brings me right back to that country. The moment I stepped into this restaurant I felt transported to another country. Dali is a fairly small place but the decor could keep you busy for hours. A beautifully tiled bar, dark lighting, lush red curtains, vines and flowers hanging from the ceiling - you actually feel like you are sitting and drinking at an outdoor patio in Spain. The vibe of the place is extremely welcoming and gets better with every hour and with every sangria. People laugh, people dance, people drink and people eat! The menu has an extensive selection of tapas, hot and cold, for a good price and the bartenders keep the sangrias coming and even hand you a glass of water when they can tell you need it (talk about looking out for your patrons!) I absolutely loved this place and I cannot wait to go back.

Finale is a fancy little dessert restaurant located right in Harvard Square. I went here for a friend's birthday celebration and we had a great time. In our pretty little dresses we ordered desserts that looked like they were taken right out of a fancy cooking magazine. It was art and it was delicious. Try the Boston Creme, or the Italian Sampler...but admire the beauty of the plate before digging in! It is almost a shame it has to be consumed (almost). Finale does offer some light fare. Appetizer plates are offered until 10pm but most come here for the sweets. Leave a Comment

Border Cafe by shohman The Border Cafe is the stuff of Legend. No trip to Harvard Square is complete without stopping here. The food and service are top notch, as is the people watching. There is usually a wait, but well worth it.
