    Don't expect much in the way of nightclubs and bars in Gloucester. Last call comes way too early for one thing. Summer action heats up on Rocky Neck at 3 bars in close proximity to each other: Madfish Grille, The Studio and The Rudder. Local artists perform at the Blackburn Tavern, Captain Carlo's, Cameron's, Old Timers Tavern and the Rhumb Line. Tourists who seek the infamous Crow's Nest will be disappointed; the bar seen in 'The Perfect Storm' was a fake movie set built in the Harbor Loop across the street from the real place. The quietest bar in town is the Pub at the Ocean View Inn and Resort because it's mostly a service bar for the dining room and has just a few chairs; the perfect place for privacy, conversation or a game of pool in the antique billiard room. You can barhop up and down Main Street and Rogers Street to your heart's content, and taxi service is available 24 hours back to your hotel.

    Gloucester is a very unpretentious place; get too dressy and you'll stick out like a sore thumb. The overdressed bar patrons are usually just arriving from a wedding on the Back Shore.

    The Blackburn Tavern: A Piece of Gloucester Restored

    • Recently The Blackburn Tavern was brought back to life in Gloucester, named for the famous fisherman who's ship was lost at sea and he survived by freezing his hands to the oars of his boat and rowing to saftey, losing his fingers in the process. A good story about the courage of the Gloucester Fisherman.
    Blackburn Tavern is a small little bar where you can grab a decent pint of beer, listen to some good music and maybe play a game of pool. Nothing too fancy, just a great little bar.

    Dress nice, but casual for Blackburns.

    This is a great place to kick back for a few beers, not to mention grab a bite to eat. After mountain biking in Ravenswood Forest, my friends and I will stop here (no matter how battered and bloody we are from biking)...a few beers always seems to ease the pain.
