 | Gloucester Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 29 | | Halibut Point is a small pub near the end of Main Street in Gloucester. A friendly atmosphere, a cold beer, and very good fish. Stop in for lunch and a little rest before continuing on to shop or board a boat for a Whale Watch. Gloucester is a salty town. Sea salt, that is. You should watch the movie, "The Perfect Storm" before you go to Gloucester. It will give you a sense of the people there...and their history. And you'll appreciate all the fish that is caught and put on the table in front of you.
fish, fish, and more fish. Their motto is, "JUST FOR THE HALIBUT" a little play on words there... Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 289 Main StreetDirections: One block up from the waterfront.Website: www.hpoint.com

The location of this restaurant and bar ,,, is the thing you have to love the most. On a hot night, the multi pane glass windows are tilted up, so that you are looking directly out to the harbor and docks. The night air is wonderful as you enjoy your seafood dinner. The bar is a good place to hang out and maybe have a shrimp cocktail. It isn't the greatest food in all the world, but it's good...and as I said, you can't beat the location. I love Rock y Neck. It's a funky old artists' colony...around the corner from the main street of Gloucester. A little peninsula tucked away by itself. Check it out! There are signs. Be sure to turn right onto the neck...then it's only one road in and out...all one way.

Ocean's Edge Restaurant at Ocean View Inn and Resort Expensive but worth it. Great wine list. Available for small weddings. Pianist on weekends.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served every day of the year. The locals know it's expensive, but they can't stay away from those scrumptious blueberry pancakes and French toast with strawberries! Luncheon guests love the soups served in addition to clam chowder. Dinner guests like the seafood and romantic atmosphere of this glass-enclosed restaurant where every table offers a panoramic ocean view. The night that I stopped into The Rudder, I met one of the owners who was absolutely cool. She seemed to take an interest in all the people dining in there or just sitting at the bar. After I finished eating, she showed me around the restaurant and told me about the restaurant's history, the former owners and how she and her sister came into ownership of it. Very friendly...and attractive!
Naturally, start off with the Clam Chowder. Then move on to a round of Oysters from the raw bar and finish with the steamed King Crab legs. Wash all this down with an Ispwich IPA brewed in Ispwich, Massachusetts. PASSPORTS THIS IS A SMALL AND FRIENDLY PLACE THAT CHANGES WITH THE SEASONS. THE CHEF GETS HIS SEAFOOD OF THE DOCKS ACROSS THE STREET. I DON'T THINK YOU CAN GET MUCH FRESHER THAN THAT!

My family and I would order from The Pilot House several times a month when I was still living at home. The food is always well prepared, to your liking and hot. Specialty of the house are the steak tips, which are some of the best around. Pilot House offers a great selection of meat fresh off the grill at a reasonable price. Great location for watching people walk by in the summer months and location in the heart of Gloucester's business district. During the St. Peter's Fiesta in late June the area is full of colorful people enjoying the yearly party in the First Pope's honor, so it may be a bit of a wait for a table.
I have to get the rib, chicken and steak tip dinner whenever I go. They come with the most incredible steak fries you will ever have. Breakfast is taken very seriously in and around Gloucester. The fishermen are up and about early, and the coffee shops are ready to go. You'll find the locals at small, familiar places such as Lee's, the Dory, Morning Glory, Willow Rest or Two Sisters, just to name a few. The message boards on Cape Ann buzz with raves about Sugar Magnolia's on Main Street, which serves fancier items like Carrot Cake Pancakes with Maple Creamcheese Butter. Sunday mornings bring long waits for tables all over town. Hotel dining rooms are traditionally packed on weekends, such as at Ocean View Inn and Resort (year-round) and Atlantis Motor Inn (in season), both on Atlantic Road on the Back Shore in East Gloucester and The Gull at Cape Ann Marina. When I was very young Jim's Bagel shop was the location of Joe Popcorn's store and his infamous slush, as well as the original location of Lucido's Barber Shop before he moved further up Main Street. Those old buidings were town down and a strip mall was erected in it's place. Originally Jim's shoppe was called Donut Jim's and it was many a Sunday my parents would send me down there to grab a dozen of his donuts. Until that time I only had eaten Dunkin Donuts and Jim's creations were revolutionary. He still makes his donuts, but now emphasizes his bakery and bagels instead of just his donuts.
I still love the chocolate donuts. Classics never go out of style.
