Some of my favorite things to do on Nantucket are the programs at the Maria Mitchell Association, including their astronomy programs at the observatory, ecology beach walks, and aquarium programs.
Named and founded in honor of America’s first professional female astronomer, The Maria Mitchell Association includes two observatories, the historic birthplace of Maria Mitchell, a beachfront aquarium, a natural science museum, a science library, and administrative offices. In addition to historic preservation and conducting natural science and astronomical research, the MMA offers a full line-up of programs for all ages and especially fun for the young. All facilities are open during the summer, and many remain open year-round.

Good for: Couples
Nantucket is a small town and so one can see all the restaurants in a short time by walking around and checking the menus posted outside each restaurant.
Also, a restaurant guide is published that I picked up where the ferry arrives, though I would guess should be available at various places.
There are two ferry companies that leave out of Hyannis. There are a couple other ports that travel to Nantucket. The boats leave every couple hours. There is a slow (older) and fast (newer) ferry. The prices are about twice as high for the fast (1 hour vs. 2 hours). Some folks will take their cars though this is expensive.
For some reason it is difficult to find info on what is actually on the island.
Nantucket Town is where the ferry docks. All stores and restaurants are located here .
To the west , a 5 mile bus ride , is the town of Madaket , which has a nice beach .
To the east , a 7 mile bus ride , is Siacowset , also with a beach .
To the south is Surfside a 2.5 mile bus ride .
Bus is the best way of travelling around . Bike rentals are expensive for a day .
Bus fare is $ 1 ( 2002 ) and you need the right change .
Fondest memory: The afternoon at Madaket beach . The waves were four to five feet high , a good off shore breeze and lots of sun .
Favorite thing: There do not seen to be many VT comments on Nantucket but lots on Martha's Vineyard . The ferry ride to Nantucket is longer than the Martha's Vineyard ferry ride. Everything in Nantucket is expensive. Bike rentals , food ,T Shirts, everything . The locals are obviously incredably rich , maybe too rich . However they have a compact and cheap bus system so take advantage of it . Dispite all of this Nantucket is preferred over Martha's Vineyard .
