The Burren....in Somerville, MA.: The Burren....in Somerville, MA.

by Cabana_Boy

A great place for the best of Irish pastimes, drinking, music and craic.....The Burren, named after that famous rocky expanse in County Clare, Ireland is great place to drink beers and catch some live music. You can often see little impromptu bands of musicians gather in the front room playing tradition Irish jigs. The back room sports an actual stage (albeit a small one) for other live acts playing all sorts of music.

Milkyway: Karaoke

by zioshech

If you like 80's music, singing, dancing, or just people watching, go here on Tuesday nights. It's simply the best Karaoke night anywhere. There's a nice stage and dance floor. If you plan on performing, show up early and sign up. none

Memorial Drive in Cambridge: Skyline of Boston

I will never forget seeing the skyline of Boston at night while driving along the Charles River in Cambridge on Memorial Drive. The sight of the city of Boston at night from across that water was just beautiful!

Shay's.........in Cambridge, MA.: Shay's........in Cambridge, MA.

by Cabana_Boy

Shay's is my favorite pub in Cambridge. Shay's is small English style pub that is slightly 'sunken' into a small upward sloping sidewalk near Harvard Square. The outdoor patio, which sits between the sidewalk and the building, is almost as big as the inside area and is great for watching the world go by.Drinking pints while sitting on the 'sunken' outdoor patio at Shay's makes me feel like I am back in college at Ball State skipping classes to drink with friends at Muglys. Whether it's a rainy spring day, a warm summer afternoon or cool fall evening; it just feels comfortable there so drop by for a pint (or two)...

ManRay: Alternative Dancing

by zioshech

This place is nicely located on Central Square in Cambridge and offers quite a large variety of music and experiences depending on which night you choose to go. Whichever night you go on, there are two dance floors so you have a choice. Wed night is for goths and all the other types of freaks out there, Thursday is gays, Friday and Saturday is for general House or 80's dance music for everybody. The place is off da hook!! Check out their website, but the wait for alcohol is usually quite long, and the bartenders will rip you off if you're drunk. Watch out! varies on different nights

The Thirsty Scholar: The Thirsty Scholar...in Somerville, MA.

by Cabana_Boy

This is one of my favorite bars in Massachusetts, and indeed one of my favs in all the Boston Area. The Scholar is one of those bars that just feels comfortable, add in a few of Somerville interesting locals and then throw in a great selection of beers (although I typically only drink three different beers here: Guinness, Newcastle & Shipyard) and one can easily spend an entire day or night here.I say that becuase The Scholar also has good food. My personal favorite dish is the steamed mussels; and, on this topic, I have had reputed argurements with O'Shea as I have stated that The Scholar's mussels are better than "his" favorite mussels at the Village Fish. The fish & chips and the steak tip dinner and Guinness Beef Stew are also good entrées.Oh, and I should mention that they also serve up a great Sunday brunch. And to this I say, I'll have the Irish breakfast or the Eggs Benedict...I...

Totally landsdown St. That's...

by talulahrz

Totally landsdown St. That's where all the partying takes place. From Jillian's to Bill's bar, the weekends are a total hit. Also check out some of the underground stuff like Boston's notorious raves. No one knows how to party like a Bostoneon.Parties here last all night and the decor is awesome. You can seriously walk from building to building and find a new club every time on Landsdown St. Take my advice, if your over 18, hit the clubs. Anything. Usually something that's gonna make you stand out. Haulter tops, jeans, skirts ,dresses. It's not very formal but definitely very richy.

This is actually not a recommendation. This is a stay-away notice. Sofia's was recommended to my husband and me by the folks at Tapeo. We love to salsa dance - my husband is Latino - and they said that this is THE place in Boston. We went and stood in line for half an hour and paid $10 each to get in (totally acceptable, we ARE from Chicago), but once inside, we saw that there was another long line to reach the upper floor, where apparently all the action was. They were clearing the tables on the main floor (it is also a restaurant) and a man was standing at the bottom of the staircase and letting just a couple of people up at a time. My husband went to ask him what was going on and the guy told him that he would let us right up if he would give him another $20. We saw him letting groups of single women and men with wads of cash right up the stairs. I was appalled at the complete lack of...

A: I'd definitely go in late Spring or during the summer. March can still be very cold and Cape Cod and Nantucket are no fun at all as they are in the warmer months.
