The beach is about a mile from the bed and breakfast, Academy Place, in which I stayed.
Nauset Beach is right on the Atlantic Ocean and is part of the National Seashore which means it is open to the public. There is a fee for parking.
You are allowed to use your boogie boards here and there is surfing and fishing. Lifeguards are on duty. There is also a clam shak called Liams where you can get something quick to eat.
There is a fee for parking.
Arrive early in the morning and walk the beach at sunrise. Or bring the whole crew and spend the day lounging on the sand. Or come by around dinner-time and have a picnic on the beach. Nauset is beautiful any time of day.
If you do plan on spending the day in the dead of summer, know that the parking lot can fill up by 11am, so come early or ride your bicycle. And sure the beach gets crowded, but it's because it's so well kept, and the view is so spectacular, and the facilities are so clean.
Parking fees for 2006 range from $5 (daily Spring and Fall) to $15 (daily Summer).
Save money on parking if you've rented a house or a hotel room in the Town of Orleans ($50 for a week / $110 for the season) or elsewhere on the Cape ($150 for the season). Bring proof (lease agreement/hotel bill) will you when you when you come to buy your pass.
And if you need to rent some beach gear (like a beach chair or an umbrella), you can do so at the snack shack. Liam's Sanck Shack is open weekends in the Spring and Fall, but they are open daily in-season, which is roughly mid-June through Labor Day. Sidenote: Liam's is also legendary for it's onion rings.
This boat rental business was so colorful and perfectly located. There is a dock, boat ramp, boat sales & rentals...boat tours available... all next door to a wonderful old inn right on the water.
This is Orleans...
Isn't that a great name for her? I'll definately have to get back there to take a sail on her. I'd like to own one like this for private parties. Or...to live on for the summer! How bout it? Too much fun!!!
If you dbl click on the pic ... you will see the detail so much better.
This little water craft really caught my eye. It is so beautifully done...interesting painting at the aft section. Wish I could have seen it under sail. I wondered if it was a party boat for rent.
dbl click on photo in order to appreciate the details of this little jewel.
What a line up of color! Guarded by the big cardboard geese...can you see them? It's part of the name of the business...
what a great day..to rent a kayak and paddle around in the sunshine..
One more view of those marvelous kayaks... such vibrant colors!! Just classic.
They seemed to be placed just right for a photo....it would almost be a shame to move them.
This little craft takes folks out around the waterways for a cooling ride ....while the Labrador retreiver stands guard over the docks.
Just off the the west of the colorful kayaks in Orleans...we find this beautiful view...just perfect in the afternoon light.
