Favorite thing: Forest Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmstead (who designed NYC's Central Park.) It is 735-acres of urban serenity, sculptures, and hiking trails.Surrounding Forest Park is a beautiful neighborhood where the author Dr. Seuss grew up, Forest Park Heights. In my travels across America, I have never seen a more attractive residential neighborhood in a city this size (150,000.) The houses were brilliant! Looked like San Francisco.
Fondest memory: The Entertainment District around Worthington Street has nearly 100 bars, restaurants, and clubs - and I believe we frequented about half of them in the two nights we were in Springfield! The city has the best of America, in my opinion - diversity - racially, economically, and in terms of sexual orientation. Everyone was partying together. Totally American and unpretentious unlike England.
