I cannot describe any activity, since we did not see any, and the Tavern looked closed although the door was open. Dissappointing after such a long walk. But nice anyway to see the 18th and 19th century buildings, and the weather was great :-) According to the brochure the opening hours are:
From mid june to Labor Day: Monday - Saturday 11 am to 3:30 pm
We were there the last wednesday before Labor Day:-(
(Not very tourist friendly to announce things like this by the name of a day, since most foreigners are not familiar with other countries' Holidays! I had to check a calendar to make sure.)
Group tours can be arranged all year around.
All in all the museum is absolutely worth a visit! It is situated at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield.
The Basketball Hall of Fame was built to commemorate the development of the sport from its infancy upto the multi billion dollar industry it is today.
The Hall of fame celebrates the milestones of the sport and the greats who have stepped foot on the hallowed hardwood.
The Quadrangle features five nationally-known museums all clustered around a "quadrangle," at the center of which is the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden.
The Quadrangle's Science Museum features the United States' first ever planetarium.
The museums range from science, to art, to history, to a museum of curiosities (G.W. Smith,) to a museum about Springfield, which is fascinating.
Springfield's Forest Park was created by Frederick Law Olmstead, famous for designing New York City's Central Park.
Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in America at 735-acres, and is arguably more beautiful than Central Park. (It is certainly more serene.)
Forest Park features hiking and walking trails, quirky sculptures, a full zoo, the Barney House, (donated by the ice skating magnate from Springfield,) America's first public pool, and baseball, basketball, and football fields (soccer to Americans.)
The American Victorian architecture surrounding the Park is some of the USA's most attractive, in my opinion.
Unfortunately I do not have information on the Tech School except to say the large quadrangle is paired with the old Armory and can be found easily if you follow the travel signs.
