    Publick House: eating in public.....

by davecallahan Updated Mar 16, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Early American Cuisine that's mainly meat and vegetables.

You can start with some Fried Green Tomatoes (just like the movie by the same name) and add in a heavy Clam Chowder, then a fresh Field Greens Salad just before the Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding.

They do have seafood and chicken and Caesar salad and roast turkey and gnocchi.

The portions are large (and so is the price tag). The service is reasonable (not rushed). The staff are friendly and courteous. Unless you are there for a special event (like a wedding) then dress is casual wear.

One of my favorite lunch destinations when I worked in Sturbridge. The "slices" are the size of a small pizza and LOADED with toppings. The eating area is a bit small - they mainly cater to take-out.

Favorite Dish: My favorite selection was the Maui pizza - ham, bacon, pineapple, lots of cheese. Try all the specialty slices.

Great little English flavored pub in the middle of Sturbridge.
Best butter n garlic mashed potatoes I've ever had.
They pour a great Boddington or Guiness as well !

Favorite Dish: Their burgers are made from great ground beef.
    Excellent choices of "flavors".
Bruchetta apps are fresh and well seasoned.

  • Whistling Swan's Ugly Duckling Loft: Rustic Elegant Atmosphere

by Tantasqua Written Apr 17, 2009

Great atmosphere in a barn like setting with
chandelliers ! The horseshoe bar with club chairs
is a relaxing place to chat with the bartenders and
your friends. Entrees are varied and good, heavy
on the burgers with many varieties.

    Favorite Dish: Grilled Salmon Salad.
Excellent flavors from the feta & dressing to the
    flaky grilled salmon. Well done.
