I've had a "front row" seat to Winthrop's July 4 fireworks thanks to a friend who lives on the water and so close to the spot that they're set off from, on "the neck." They always do a good job and being able to spend the afternoon with friends, leading up to them, is the best.more
This is a great restaurant with rooms upstairs being the part of the Hotel. I understand there are...more

Good for: Couples
The rooms are not bad, but watch out for the Airplanes passing overhead. Close to Yirrel beach, no...more
The place is a little run down and the wait staff is kinda slow but the food is not bad. The prices are very reasonable. I recommend the burgers. Juicy and overhanging the bun, about the best I've found anywhere. I often find myself there when I want "comfort food". Nothing is gourmet, but I that's good. Giant Hamburgers, excellent beef, good...more
A long time hotel in the area that has been refurbished and brought back to status of a fine hotel and restaurant. Wonderful hospitality! Everyone always has a pleasant word and smile! I love the filet, but also find the baked haddock, salmon or sole to be devine. Whatever I have had, I leave feeling content and satisfied with my meal. Everything...more
Wonderful Italian food! The ambience is nice, but a little on the noisy side. It's divided into two rooms and we prefer the second room because it's away from the door and seems to be a quieter room. But then, it doesn't matter because the food is so GREAT. LOL, sit me anywhere! Ravioli with meatballs.... maybe the Shrimp Scampi.... wait a minute,...more
Unless you go to an event at one of the yacht clubs or the Elks or maybe a play at the Makers Playhouse, the only other nightlife that I know of is "watching the sun set". They can be beautiful! Here is one of our November Sunsets... that's Boston to your right, just beyon Logan Airport.more

Airplane, Car, Bus or Boat. Only two roads into town ... Both are Route 145 ... one entering from East Boston and the other exits from Revere. (unless you're coming IN that way)
They're talking about a Ferry from Deer Island to Boston here someday.
We do have buses that run on a regular and reliable schedule. It's also a small town in size and you can walk just about anywhere.
Here's the traffic in our backyard ... since we're right next to Logan Airport, that's an airplane coming in for a landing. It's flying in over the Winthrop Yacht Club.
Just a little spot in town of local shops of all kinds; Bakery, banks, drugstore, liquer store, dollar store, little takeout restaurants, medical, dentists, beauty shops, shoe store & groceries. A little of everything within a small area of streets! Just like a "Square"!
With a little park right in the middle.
Small but very nice!
What to buy: Everyday items.
A neighbor feeds the swans, duck & seagulls of Lewis Lake some bread. Just on the other side of the road is Boston Harbor.Frankly I don't think they should be fed table scraps like this. They should be fending for themselves in the summer months and it only makes them stay for the winter when they should be going south. They should be hunting and...more
If you know someone to have you as a guest to the Winthrop Yacht Club, you must sit out on their porch in one of the rockers. Sip on a Margaretta while gazing at Boston, watch the airplanes land at Logan Airport or the boats coming into dock, or the glorious sunset on a Summer evening. I'm afraid it's the only night life on our little island, but...more
Unless you're in one of the airplanes.Massport often finds it necessary to kill birds that could fly into jet engines and cause malfunctions. Usually the casualties are starlings or seagulls. But on September 13, 2002, Massachusetts Port Authority officials that were trying to keep airspace clear for planes, shot a male swan. .The bird had lived in...more
If you're on the beach or out on a boat and an electrical storm comes in, get out of the water and head for cover (not under a tree silly) as soon as you can.Can happen very quickly too!I'm standing on my porch when I took this picture. It's on the blurry side but I had to get it pretty quickly.Yup, that's a rainbow next to the lighting strike!more
It's not the usual area for tourists to come, so I can't think of any traps to get into here. Unless you looking for a Lobster trap!!
Luggage and bags:
This is New England and has a variety of weather and more than one event can happen in one day. Since we're on the coast, count on a 10 degree difference (lower) and we're usually warmer than inland. But do remember, in Winter we still get snow and cold weather like the rest of the State and New England, only not as much.
Oh, in case you don't know (and not everyone does) the New England States consist of the top eastern corner portion of the United States: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. And there you have it!

Next the Jimmy Magg's on Bennington Street, East Boston is the entrance to the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation..Belle Isle Marsh Reservation preserves 152 acres of the 241- acre Belle Isle Marsh, Boston's last remaining salt marsh. A unique place to explore, the reservation exemplifies the type of wetlands that once lined the Massachusetts Bay shore....more
Okay ... this might not be an acitivity for all, BUT I love to walk about town and view the gardens. Either in the front, side or back yards, as well as on the porches to greet a visitor. People put so much work into them and the Summer is too short not to walk about and enjoy them. We don't have a big garden but only a back porch, so Bill planted...more
Okay, I know this is a restaurant and it's in East Boston ... which is just outside of Winthrop across from the Suffolk Downs 'T' station 1233 Bennington St, (617) 567-4454. It's also on one of the landing routes for the incoming airplanes over Revere, Boston and Winthrop. But I also LOVE their pizza!!And it is also right next to the entrance to...more
For the sailing regatta schedule, check out the website below at Cottage Park. There are three Yacht Clubs and the Elks with moorings in Winthrop Harbor. But Cottage Park is the most popular for the sail boat owners. If you're a sailer, you know what you need for equipment!more
That's Snake Island in front with Spectacle Island on the far side. The Sailing Regattas are usually put on by the Sailing Yacht Clubs. Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop also has a Youth Sailing program to teach young people how to sail. I don't know how to sail myself, but I LOVE to watch.Check for the programs at the website listed below..For...more
We're on the Harbor side of Winthrop and when it get's as cold as it has this winter 2003, the salt water will freeze up on Boston Harbor. The Ice Breaker Boat has to go out and break up the ice thru the Channel so ships can come & go to Boston. I didn't get a picture of that being done, but here I am standing in my driveway and this is what it...more
Winthrop is only 1.6 square miles. Sidewalks on both sides of the street and lovely old neighborhoods. Just right for getting out to take a walk! Sidewalks everywhere. I'm from New Hampshire where sometimes there are no sidewalks at all and you have to always be aware of the traffic. But Winthrop is one of the safest places to walk that I've ever...more
