Worcester Art Museum

Worcester Art Museum, Worcester

garridogal Says:  I'm surprised I haven't seen another tip on this museum here. (Unless it's here and I just haven't found it.) This is a very nice little museum with some very nice pieces in it including works by El Greco, Monet, Kandinsky and even a Rembrandt. We saw an exhibit of...

Check out the Ecotarium!, Worcester

Phildagr8 Says:  This is a cool place to check out. This place is like a mini-zoo/planetarium/artsy-fartsy culturistic place to go. There is a zoo section with an area of snowy owls, red fox, river otters, bobcats, mountain lion (I don't know if there's more than 1), and polar bears.Inside...

BigBlueOne Says:  Traditionally upscale seafood restaurant. The ambience fits very nicely with what its trying to be. I had the steamed lobster. While it was good the appetizers were better (we tried almost all of them). Pretty good wine list for a seafood joint as well.

garridogal Says:  We sat at the bar here, had drinks and sampled some of the fare. This restaurant has some really interesting dishes and appetizers. Really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the Bloody Mary's which are served with a jumbo shrimp for a garnish. Yum! We split a Tuna Sashimi...

Bagel Time: The Best Bagels in a 60 mile radius!, Worcester

Phildagr8 Says:  These bagels are made the old fashion way... they're kettled ( boiled). By submerging the dough in boiling water, it seals in the moisture and gives them a shine. Their bagels meet the "requisite weight minimum" of 4 ounces, and their size shows it! These bagels "totally...

Irish Times, Main St: Excellent Watering Hole, Worcester

erinwink Says:  Irish Times is one of the greatest bars in Worcester. Centrally located on Main St, it is near most major hotels. Definitely stop by for a good time with good food, drinks, and locals. Also, there is usually live entertainment on weekends.

"The movie theater" of Worcester: Get out and see a movie!, Worcester

Phildagr8 Says:  You can easily do the traditional "dinner and a movie" date...and then whatever, in Worcester. The theater is north of the Greendale Mall, and they have plenty of individual theaters to choose from. I over-dressed for the movie, but not for dinner, as you'll see below.

One thing about Worcester is it is very cultured as far as mixed nationalies and such. There is pretty much an even spread about all types of people.

Here is the new expanded library that was just put up across the street from my work.

Not to say there are any 'tourist traps' around Worcester, but you have to be careful in some areas. For example: Elm park is lovely, within 1 mile you can dine at a *5 star restaurant, attend a leading college, view mansions in the salsibury area, or get mugged, your car stolen, or buy crack from someone who can't even speak english.
This for example is Bacroft tower which used to be a nice park with gesse and such, but note the bars on the windows and blue spray paint vandalism :(

Luggage and bags: While in New England you can try 'Candle Pin' bowling.
The Pins are much skinnier and the ball fits in the palm of your hand. Look, even a 2 year old can do it!

KarenandCory Says:  Candlepin bowling, popular in New England, was invented in Worcester in 1880. Candlepin bowling balls are smaller than traditional bowling balls and have no holes. The pins are also smaller and therefore harder to hit.

vrage Says:  This is a typical Worcester neighborhood.Back in the early 1900's a lot of these houses were built as 1 or 2 family places, and a lot were converted to one family because of the baby boomers. Now most that I know are 2 family.
