Gettin' hungry just thinking about it by Bunsch Angelo's is an Ann Arbor institution. At the corner of East Catherine and Glen, just a few steps away from the Medical Center, you'll find a diner-esque place (counter space, some booths, tables in the little expanded back area and the newer take-out area), generally with a crowd of hungry folks waiting for their dose of cholesterol, because Angelo's has to have the best breakfasts in the world. Not only that...I actually fly the raisin bread out to Rhode Island because IT IS FANTASTIC. Portions are immense, and deeply satisfying. Spend the extra money for the freshly-squeezed OJ. There is absolutely nothing on the menu that won't please you.
The homemade raisin bread French toast is so amazing that I could eat it even without the real maple syrup. You may need an appetite and a half to get your mouth around a Zingerman's sandwich. With classic corned beef and pastrami, free-range turkey and chicken, more cheeses than you knew existed, and dee-luxe condiments slathered on home-baked bread, it's no surprise that lines for the sandwich counter often stretch out the door. While you're waiting to order, you can scan the display cases and scout out exotic cheeses (be sure to ask for samples), olives, dried fish and other delicacies. Wooden shelves are piled high with magnificent olive oils (there are often cups of oil and soft little bread cubes available for tasting), pastas, European canned tomatoes, vinegars, anchovies and much more.
We go for the sandwiches but usually end up bringing home cheese, olive oil and meats from the deli. And don't forget their bread now that they've opened their own bakery. I have a friend who's lived in Ann Arbor for 12 years and had never been to Amadeus. What's more, he didn't know it existed until I took him there. Amadeus is small enough and out-of-the-way enough to be overlooked even by long-time Ann Arbor residents. The fact that it's so small and unknown makes it all the better in a town full of huge despicable chain restaurants. There are about a dozen tables in the restaurant and it's usually staffed by one or two waitpersons at a time. It's very small and very European in atmosphere, which goes very well with the Eastern European menu.
When the waiter told me that the soup of the day was dill pickle soup, I was sort of disgusted but curious. I think I was expecting something with a base like pickle brine. Instead it's a delicious creamy soup with a slight dill, vinegarey flavor. I really believe that it gets better with every spoonful, because you start a little curious and frightened and by the end, you're wondering why you only ordered a cup and whether it would be wrong to pick up the cup and lick the remaining soup off the edges. I also highly recommend the White Chocolate Macadamia Bombe, which won some kind of award and highly deserved it. Unfortunately they were out the last time I was there, so it isn't as fresh in my mind as the soup.

Blimpy Burger by Meatwad79 Blimpy's has a legendary reputation around Ann Arbor. They simply have the best hamburgers I've tasted. The hamburgers are made from thin patties (they grind their meat fresh daily) and you can order from two patties (a double) to as many as you desire on your burger. They also serve french fries, fried vegetables and chili, but the burgers are the main attraction. The service is notoriously rude, but that's often considered part of the appeal (really!). If there is one place in town that should be considered a unique Ann Arbor dining experience, this is it.

by SilverVelvet This little gem of a restaurant has about five tables and five bar stools at the counter, but what it lacks in space is more than compensated with one of the best (and cheapest) menus in town served with a healthy side of hospitality. This tiny spot consistently wins local 'Best of ...' awards from most of the newspapers for 'best cheap eats' and often 'best Middle Eastern food.'

by yumi53 'Kai-Yuan' is a Chinese restaurant in Ann Arbor, we just found this restaurant while we were driving suddenly. We saw that they also show they have Taiwanese food on their menu, so we just stopped by, and had a wonderful dinner there! I think you will like their cooking, if you never tried to eat Taiwanese food before, because I think they really cook it very well! I like it, and you will too!! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

I can't pick just one, so I'll go with three: The Moveable Feast, D'Amato's, and the Lord Fox. The Moveable Feast is definitely the best meal in town. It's great for dinner with a loved one, but bear in mind that it's also expensive - valet parking in front (practically unheard of in downtown Ann Arbor) should tip you off to that. But at the same time, each meal I've had there has been worth every penny. D'Amato's is easier on the wallet, but still great for the tastebuds. Wonderful Italian cooking (although with American-sized portions), a good wine list, and a quiet, intimate atmosphere. The Lord Fox isn't in Ann Arbor proper, but rather in Dixboro, an outlying village to the northeast. What little there is of Dixboro is warm and charming, and the Lord Fox is no exception. The food is fantastic, they have a good wine list, and in the summer you can enjoy your meal seated outside enjoying the scenery.
Absolutely anything. These are three restaurants you simply can't go wrong at. Every single item is good - the chefs rotate the menu seasonally and based upon the freshness of ingredients. I should make a special note that the tableside caesar salad at the Lord Fox is amazing... a must-try. by SilverVelvet Zenzibar (Pan-tropical bistro) Zanzibar is a snappy casual restaurant that's perfect for a slightly more upscale evening in a casual setting. The menu leans toward the style of a tropical bistro with one of the most creative menus I've ever seen. For example, how about atlantic whitefish tossed with seared vegetables, chiles and spices, baked in banana leaves then served with jicama-pineapple salad and warm corn tortillas? Or, spiced grilled sea scallops on a plantain tostada with black beans, tomato-chile sauce and applewood-smoked bacon? Reservations recommended.

by SilverVelvet How to know if an ethnic restaurant is good in this university town? If the place is packed with foreign students far from home, it's probably a gem. Dynersty is just the spot for Chinese food that's packed with lots of Chinese students eating large portions for modest prices.

by SilverVelvet There are a fair number of people from India in Ann Arbor and, as a result, lots of great Indian restaurants. Raja Rani is one popular spot located inside what was once probably a large, private home.
