    Factory Tour

by davecallahan Updated Mar 30, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We were lucky enough to get to Kellogg's factory when they still had the factory tours (pre-1990). They would take a group of people with a talking guide to see where the boxes and inserts and cornflakes all come together on roller-ways and horizontal escalators to become a box of Kellogg's cereal. The tour took about 40 minutes and was really interesting for adults but boring as all heck for the kids. So they gave the kids a free box of CornFlakes as a prize.

Then they replaced the tours with Kellogg's Cereal City. This has a fake factory tour with all the machines in cut-away view so you can see the insides. This is a little more interesting for the kids. Then they let you roam a museum area with replicas of all the Kellogg products and characters they have had over the years. There is a play room for the kids where you can do those Lego thingees and those foam balls in a netted bin and a slide. They added a souvenier shop and snack bar. And the kids still get a free box of CornFlakes. You can even get your picture taken with a cardboard cutout of the cereal characters.

    UPDATE 2007
They have discontinued the Kellogg Cereal City because it was going broke.

    Binder Zoo

by davecallahan Updated Mar 30, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Binder Park Zoo is quite a large affair. Walking with the kids around this place back-in-the-days was not too bad but I would definitely opt for the Tram Ride if we did it again. The animals are penned in large open semi-natural enclosures that give them room to roam while providing access and viewing by us human visitors. There are several general areas: forest, swamp, savannah, hills. Sometimes you have to stand at one area for a bit of time before you can get a glimpse of the animals. They tend to hide in spots not easily seen from the walkways. There is a snack bar and picnicking area; a full restaurant and gift shop; full facility restroom, strollers, handicap access.

On certain days (not one of the ones we were there of course) they have special exhibits with trainers showing the animals.

It was not a bad zoo at all, but was priced a bit high for the number of animals available.
If you have not been to Bronx Zoo or Toronto Zoo or even the Buffalo Zoo then this place is quite good.

Week long event that includes airshows, hot air balloons, and fireworks!

We only saw the airshow, but it was great. Would certainly want to come again and take it all in.

    Feed a giraffe!

    Make friends with a giraffe!

Binder Park Zoo is a great small zoo that gives you an opportunity to get up close to some animals, and the rare opportunity to feed and pet a giraffe. Their Wild Africa exhibit is very well done, and it is a rare chance to see animals roaming in herds, as is their natural behavior. The zoo is "dooable" in a few hours, and isn't too much walking for small kids. There are great picnic areas outside the zoo entrance, which we take advantage of when we visit. The Halloween Zoo Boo is supposed to be tons of fun - we are hoping to go this year.
    Open April-October
