YOOPERS! The picture should do most of the explaining! The plaid shirt and winter hat usually are a dead give-away! Yoopers are natives to the UP and usually drive pick-up trucks laden with mud in the summer or a dear strapped to the roof in the winter. Caution: beware of the yooper accent.

There are black bears in the woods, so be aware of their presence, and if camping do not leave food or garbage lying around your campsite. Mosquitoes and black flies can be numerous in the U.P. Although they vary in numbers from year to year, I would recommend that you always come prepared with insect repellent.
