Favorite thing: Yes, this is a wonderful place in the center of Detroit. My friend Al would be shocked, but I like the Eastern Market much more than the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle - it's not at all touristy here. It's open all year round, but it particularly shines in the late summer when local farmers show off their best produce.

Eggplant Heaven at the Eastern Market

Favorite thing: Have you ever seen such lovely eggplants? (Or "aubergine" as they say in the U.K.) Well, perhaps you have, but they certainly don't look like that at the grocery stores in the U.P.! Nothing beats fresh eggplant, squash, tomatoes and onions all combined in a spicy rattatouille!
