I used to watch the christmas parade from here when I was a little girl. Back then only the Garden Bowl was there (the oldest bowling alley in the country!) and my Dad knew the owners. The business is still in the same family, but since then they have grown. Upstairs from the Garden Bowl is the Magic Stick. This used to be a good place to see the White Stripes and you still have a chance to see some garage rock or other up and coming bands and national acts in the theater. There's not room for tons of folks, about 150-200 maybe. They have pool tables of course. The Garden Bowl is way retro and the Majestic Theater next door is a larger venue. In the same building are the C-Pop art gallery (very cool) and the Majestic Cafe. Have a good time! Leave a Comment

The Bleu Room Experience is supposed to be Detroit's hot spot as far as clubs go. As far as the club design, maybe I'm hard to impress. Or maybe there's just so many fabulous people spilling beer in there that you can't appreciate the fabulousness of the club itself. Or maybe it's the sea of young men that like to stand around, bob their heads and look cool. They do get some of the best DJ's around and if you like to dance, or are into the club scene it will be hard not to have a good time. You can dress up, but guys will feel comfortable in a T and a nice pair of shoes. Sure, some girls show a lot of skin, but leave that to the professionals. Don't wear your most fabulous outfit. It may get a cigarette hole burned in it and some drooling guy's drink spilled on it. OHHH! how could I FORGET! Paris Hilton will be hosting a Superbowl XL party there. I bet you didn't know she is a big football fan. Or is it that the football players are a big fan of Paris? (just a joke, guys!!!) COVER CHARGE: 5-10 bucks depending on the day/event up to around $30 for shows.
Women: dress up as much as you would like, but something comfortable is best. Men: T's, Polo's are ok. Forget the wife-beater. A little style wouldn't hurt any! Lay off the hair gel, chachi, and leave the cross trainers at home. Leave a Comment

I've been to all the casinos at least a few times and my preference is the Greektown Casino. Not because of payouts, I know very little about that. I just think that Greektown has the best ventilation, they have free cappuccino, a good band every night I've been there, lots of restaurants to choose from w/in walking distance and free convenient parking. Plus the people mover is in the building. From personal experience, I've won $250-300 within 15 minutes at Windsor and MGM off of $10 (Yeah, I'm big time. Thats when I left)! Whenever I park at Greektown i spend around 5 bucks and win 20-40 and leave. Motor City is my least favorite. I think its stinky and smokey. There you have it.
Just don't wear anything too grubby. You'll see young women dressed nicely, older ladies in strechy jeans with belly bags, and young suburban men with baggy pants and too much hair gel (you know who you are). So wear what you're comfortable with. Leave a Comment

St Andrews hall is a must for new music/ alt. lovers. Its got a cool kind of gritty underground feel and is an intimate setting - room for about 1000 in the hall and maybe a few hundred in the "Shelter". This place has been around for a while and is somewhat famous. Depeche Mode has played here as well as bands such as Jane's Addiction and Limp Bizkit. Visit here and you may catch the next big thing. P.S. sometimes techno Leave a Comment

The first time I was invited to Tom's Tavern I said, "where?!" and I giggled with anticipation when I pulled into the dirt parking lot. But this place is a TREASURE! Its been around since the days when 7 mile was a dirt road and appeared first as a chicken coop. An immigrant to America bought it in the 20's and sold sandwiches from the front and rumor has it, illegal activities were sold in the back. Colorful stories of the age of prohibition and beyond haunt the place. Well, concrete was poured on the floor and it slants quite a bit, but the bar stool legs are cut so you wont fall off. Old-timers and executive types mingle here in this haven from the rat race.

Smooth, sophisticated, upscale & fashionable. Seldom Blues is a Jazz Club located in the GM building (Renaissance Center) overlooking the Windsor and the beautiful Detroit river. Just imagine yourself having a romantic interlude with Bogie or Ingrid Bergman. Then fast forward to the 21st century. It really is a stylish, nouveau supper club. You may be familiar with two of the owners - Detroit Lion Robert Porcher and Jazz Musician Alexander Zonjic - Both doing great things for the city of Detroit. This is a great "grown up" spot for an evening out. You can enjoy a great meal & great music in a modern supper club. Their specialties are steak and seafood and they have a large variety of appetizers and salads. Prices for entrees run from the teens to the high 40's and lunches are reasonable.
Reservations are recommended and guys must dress the part - no jeans for men. Snappy casual works fine for the ladies. But don't you want to dress to impress? It's part of the experience. Besides, you are SO beautiful! Leave a Comment

If you know even just a little about jazz, then you should know Baker's. It's THE oldest running jazz club in the WORLD and the performers here read like a who's who list of the jazz world. Need I say more? Everynight they have live entertainment and they serve dinner & lunch. Leave a Comment

Located at the edge of Greektown, this Irish pub brings in the best of the town's partiers. A great place to be on St. Patty's day, they have live music, good food and fairly priced drinks. Also has their own shuttle to the sporting events, in which plasstic cups of your drink of choice are permitted.
