Detroit is famous for its Greektown. Its one of the best neighborhoods for dining in Detroit. We wanted to visit the famous New Parthenon Restaurant. We were here on a Friday evening, which is normally a busy evening in most major cities for restaurants. Once again we found very few people in the restaurant, but not because the restaurant was a bad choice. The food was excellent. The staff was very helpful. It was one of my favorite experiences in Detroit. If you are in Detroit I highly recommend this restaurant. The Greek food is authentic and plentiful.
There are plenty of great dining options in Greek Town and New Parthenon is one them. The restaurant has simple table settings, with scenes from ancient Greece painted on the walls. There is also a life-size replica of the statue of Zeus in the act of throwing a spear. (Just like the original, the spear is missing.) The restaurant has plenty of seating, with multiple levels, so you won't have to worry about finding a table.
As it is only a few blocks from Comerica Park and Ford Field, it is a great place to eat before or after the game.
Favorite Dish:
The grilled chicken with greek potatoes and rice is particularly good, while saganaki (the flaming cheese) is a mandatory appetizer. As with any Greek restaurant, gyros and lamb dishes are also worth a try. They also serve breakfast.
New Parthenon !! Greatest tasting Greek food around. My mouth waters just walking by. Or if you in for a little kick, try Fishbones for some good ol' Creole dishes
Multi-level, wonderful host :)
Favorite Dish:
Vegetarian Trio for sure
