Hamtramck in Detroit's only official burrough and has a large Polish and Eastern European community. The restaurants, bakeries and pubs aren't fancy, but they are the real deal. Former president George Bush ate at the popular Under the Eagle Polish restaurant. The world-famous Motor Lounge nightclub is also located in Hamtramck.
Detroit has what was (and I believe still is) the largest Polish population outside of Europe in the tiny city of Hamtramck, within Detroit city borders.
Your best bets for authentic, delicious, Polish food are Under the Eagle or Polish Village Cafe.
Under the Eagle routinely wins Best Polish Restaurant in Reader's polls. Presidents have eaten there!
