there are a few ways to pass the time in downtown Detroit other than losing yourself at the casinos.
Greektown: still has a pulse and shows signs of life. Most all the restaurants are good.

Comerica Park: watch the Detroit Tigers baseball team in action, take your kids to the mini amusement park next to the food court, or try an exotic beer at the indoor pub. This brand new facility is totally self-contained and thus quite family friendly.

RenCen: The Renaissance Center was erected over 30 years ago. It did not cause much of a downtown 'rebirth' but it makes for an interesting walk about (or will, once reconstruction is complete).

A drive out along Jefferson towards Belle Isle: In the '50's this was a vibrant area. Comparing the glorious old deco-style Water Reclamation Building with the bleak neighborhood that surrounds it will overwhelm you with a sense of sadness for Detroit's failure to develop its potential. Here is an alternative:

Comerica Park is the home of the Detroit Tigers. It's a great new venue that was designed with a somewhat retro flair. The park takes advantage of the view of the city skyline and includes a merry-go-round, a ferris wheel and other interesting surprises. See the olympia entertainment website for information on baseball games and concerts.

Comerica Park: A Place To See The Tigers!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Comerica Park is not only a place to see and watch the baseball game of the Tigers. It is a place for the whole family - the old and the young! Both will surely enjoy this new home of the Detroit Tigers. For the old - it's the game. For the young - there are too many things for the kids to be excited about. Just at the entrance, there is a huge statue of a Tiger where friends and families can pose for a souvenir. As soon as you enter the ballpark, you will find a carousel and and a galore of concession stands. When you are ready to enter the stadium, you will be guided by the staff and bring you to a comfortable seat. The huge tiger scoreboard will attract your attention. It is so dominating. Not only that, once you are seated and just before the game starts, you can have photo shots of Downtown Detroit the way I did. You can socialize as the people are friendly and the atmosphere is surreal. It is awesome!

Just for the record, this new home of the Tigers was opened in the Year 2000. It is a park full of Tigers. Tiger statue at the entrance, Tiger merry-go-round, a Tiger carousel, a Tiger ferriswheel, and a Tiger at the scoreboard. Comerica Park is a blast of Tigers!

Come and join the Tigers. It takes only US$8.00 to enjoy everything Detroit has to offer.

Comerica Park: Hail to the Victors!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • To steal a line from the U of M fight song...
Comerica Park is home of the 2006 American League Champion Detroit Tigers Baseball team. The park opened in 2000 to bring in the new millenium after the Tigers played in Tiger Stadium from 1912-1999.
If one is on a baseball hajj, one must see Comerica Park. It is very fan-friendly and the statues of past Tiger heros in the park behind the center field wall are worth the visit. There is also a carnival ride area for kids with a ferris wheel whose cars look like baseballs! The merry-go-round has, you guessed it, tigers instead of horses!
If one wants to enjoy all three "all American" favorites at once, yes, they have apple pie at the McDonald's concession in the park!
If one wants to blow a c-note or two on the family in one afternoon, I can't think of any better surroundings to do it in. This place has entertainment for all age groups. From the amusement-park rides to the cigar bar. From hot dog concessions to a gourmet restaurant.

    Comerica Park: Lets Go Tigers!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Comerica Park, although most famous for being the home of Detroit's major league baseball team, the Tigers, also houses many other events such as concerts and fundrasing events. Most recently, it housed the SGK "Race for the cure" where thousands of people gathered and walked/ran to raise money for the cure and awareness of breast cancer.
The area is surrounded by restaurants and bars as well, so whatever your dining pleasure may be after the game, you shouldn't have a hard time finding it!

Comerica Park: Watch the Tigers at Comerica Park
Watch a baseball game or take a guided tour on non-game days. Ride on the carousel, ferris wheel, eat at the food court, and admire the huge statues of baseball greats. This ballpark is beautiful and has great attention to detail. The huge tiger at the gate is great for a photo with the family! The stadium is nestled within the city, and next door is the new Ford field. You can usually find parking on a side street for a few bucks, or if you get there early, you can find a free spot on the street, otherwise parking in the garage can be pricey.

    Comerica Park: Baseball Stadium
Comerica Park is a baseball stadium located in downtown Detroit, Michigan.
It was constructed as a replacement for the popular, but aging, Tiger Stadium for the Detroit Tigers.
It is located next door to Ford Field, the home of the Detroit Lions.

Comerica Park: Tigers on the loose!
I'm not big on baseball, but I'm big on the Tigers!

This year the Detroit Tigers have been better than ever. If making your way to Detroit this summer (2006) I HIGHLY recommend checking out a game. They have been unstoppable!

Tickets range from $60 to $5. Food and drinks are ridiculously expensive, but that's what happens at sporting events.

There is always great people watching, places to eat, drink and spend money, and a romantic ferris wheel of baseballs that you can ride in with your loved one or kids. Fireworks after the games on Friday and Saturday. And the Tigers rock!

    Fun for everyone!
