A SLICE OF LIFE WITH A SLICE OF MELON

Eastern Market is a cheerful and lively place to spend a morning and purchase fresh, inexpensive produce for a picnic lunch or just to visit for fun. All types of people gather here to buy and sell. Around the main market you will find some antique shops, a spice shop and the Rocky Peanut Company which sells nuts, candy, and other items. You will also find meat markets, dairy shops and a wine store. Take the pedestrian bridge to the larger meat market. Some restaurants are open early for breakfast and there is also a pub, a "coney island" & a pizza joint as well as other places for a relaxing lunch. Roma Cafe in the Market area is a well known Dinner spot frequented by Red Wings (if there's a hockey season). The market opens @ 7:00am & is closed on Sunday. Best to go on a Sat. ( The real bargains start around 1:00pm when the vendors are ready to go home!)

Eastern Market is where Detroit goes to shop for fresh produce, plants, and flowers every Saturday. Just around the market perimeter are some interesting shops - visit the Cost Plus Wine Shoppe or the Rocky Peanut Company.

    A cacophony of languages

The Eastern Market on a Saturday is a melting pot of cultures, languages and foods that represents all that is good about Detroit - the diversity.

You must have a sausage sandwich at the Fish shop next to the Cost Plus Wine Shoppe.
