Rick's Cafe: Live music scene in East Lansing
Back in the day, this was THE place for live music. You we're not a real band unless you gigged at Rick's. These days it is split between live music and lame dj's. Oh well, everything changes. It is still a cool place to check out a band though. I like the vibe- The sweat comes off the walls as everybody is crammed together in a basement location. I always liked that about Rick's. It was like we we're all in a hip underground club and it made us special.
Dress Code: pretty casual or super classy. It is up to you.
The Riv: Your basic college bar
This is a classic college dive. The floor sticks to your shoes. It smells of stale beer and greasy food, and many people are a little tipsy. The good thing is that it is not as pretentious or douchy as many of the East Lansing bars. You can be yourself here. The service can be a little slow, but to be expected in a college town. A cool place to be if you want to hang with some friends and watch a game. Your basic college grub. Nothing fancy.
Dress Code: I would say casual. You do not want to wear nice clothes here. Beer will just get spilled on them:)
The Riv: Burgeroma
Thursday is Burgeroma night at the Riv. Pitchers of beer are only $2 and burgers are 1. Just get there before 3:30 or you will be waiting in line. Try to get a booth. Later on in the ngith, when the whole bar joins in on some of the songs playing, sing along or you will stand out.
Landshark: Cheap food and drinks
Happy hour at the Landshark on Friday night mean very cheap food, beer or drinks for a low cover charge. If you are over 30 you will feel out of place, but this is the perfect spot to mingle with the college crowd.
Dress Code: Jeans and a t-shirt.
Troppo: Higher Class
If you want to get away from the college crowd, Troppo is an upscale bar and restaurant in downtown East Lansing. It's the perfect place to schmooze with a higher class and get good food and well made drinks.
Dress Code: Khakis and a cotton shirt.
